Renegade Rodian

- Appearance: Even by Trandoshan standards, Derrenger is a fairly scary fellow. Most gigantic, murderous lizards are. He has scars along his face, arms, legs, and probably more that just aren’t visible under his armor. Most obvious are the ligature scars around his neck. When he isn’t sleeping, it’s exceedingly rare to see Derrenger wearing anything that isn’t his pockmarked, well worn set of medium armor.

- Skills: Whether through cunning or more traditional means, it’s said there isn’t a person Derrenger can’t track down. In his short career as a bounty hunter, Derrenger acquired all of the targets he set out for - many of whom were of high value. His senses are predictably sharp - no one really gets the jump on him any more. Derrenger is also quite skilled in subduing and restraining a variety of species, as well as skinning and dressing game animals.
- Personality: Derrenger rarely speaks and it is even more rare that he sounds happy to do so. Ill-tempered would be the best way to describe this terse Trandoshan, who speaks only to convey information or relay orders. There is never any small talk from him. He is still mindfully reverent of the Scorekeeper, but never talks about it with his colleagues. When not out in the field on an assignment, Derrenger prefers to keep to himself. He has been seen meditating and reading, but meditating on what and reading what has so far been kept a secret. As with all Syndicate employees, he is decidedly unscrupulous and will take any sort of mercenary work so long as he's paid.
- Combat Function: Derrenger is a huntsman, specializing in medium and long range combat. Derrenger is an excellent shot with both his bowcaster and the standard-issue sniper rifle utilized by the Helix Syndicate. If push comes to shove, he can typically hold his own in a fist fight, but he’s only a simple brawler in terms of practice. While Derrenger is quite strong for a Trandoshan, he is somewhat inelegant, and a faster opponent would likely be at an advantage.

To the Wookiees, he was known as Huvguarrr the Liberator. The Trandoshans only called him the Silverback Slaughterer. For good reason, too - Huvguarrr regularly decimated entire Trandoshan slaver patrols singlehandedly, slaughtering the Trandoshans to the last man and then freeing the slaves. Derrenger’s father was the head of his Clan. When two of his patrols wound up butchered and dispersed, he went along with the next one to face the Silverback Slaughterer himself. Of course it didn’t work. The Trandoshans Derrenger’s father took with him were killed, but Derrenger’s father wasn’t. He was taken captive, humiliated, blinded, and then abandoned in the jungle. Surprisingly he found his way off planet with a different Clan that happened to stumble upon him.
Getting captured during a hunt is among the worst fate a Trandoshan can suffer. In just one failed hunt, a lifetime of jagganath points had been lost and a prestigious history as a hunter and slaver wiped away. The shame was crippling, to say the least, and when coupled with his blindness there was no way to win them back. Derrenger’s father did not live much longer after that, dying in indignity and disgrace. The Clan disintegrated shortly afterward. So comprehensive and terrifying was the destruction that to speak the name of Derrenger’s father or his Clan is still considered bad luck. Derrenger joined a different Clan and began preparing to exact vengeance on the Silverback Slaughterer, biding his time.
At the ripe age of 29, Derrenger got his chance. The Silverback and his followers ambushed Derrenger’s patrol, but Derrenger and his allies were ready. The fighting was intense and there are still a few drinking songs making circles on Trandosha that describe it. Eventually only Derrenger and the Silverback were left. Once they both ran out of ammo, it turned into a brawl. It is no secret that Wookiees are stronger than Trandoshans. The Silverback at once got an advantage, found himself a suitable vine, and began strangling Derrenger to death with it. In a blind scramble, Derrenger did manage to find a large chunk of Wroshyr tree. Shrapnel from one of the many explosions. Derrenger jammed this into the eye of the Silverback, forcing his release. Derrenger scrambled forward while the Silverback howled in anger and pain, putting some distance between the two.
And then he found a rock.
Bigger and better or not, when the Silverback charged again, Derrenger still had his rock. To the credit of the Silverback Slaughterer, it took at least seven cracks with the rock before he finally died. Once he was done roaring and having a moment, Derrenger skinned the Silverback Slaughterer and took his bowcaster as a trophy. He cleared it of adornments and continues to carry the weapon to this day. Derrenger did not stay on Trandosha long after the end of the Slaughterer, leaving for parts unknown after he sold the pelt like it were any other. He knew there would be a lot of Wookiees with a bone to pick with him and left before news of the Silverback’s defeat could spread very far. He started calling himself Derrenger and took up a job bounty hunting as far to the galactic north as he could possibly go: the Pentastar Alignment.
He enjoyed a lucrative career for several years. When the Helix Syndicate came into power, he captured several high profile debtors and brought them in. Suitably impressed with his work, the Syndicate offered to keep him on retainer. Derrenger accepted and, despite his seeming dislike for the rest of the lieutenants, he has remained with the Syndicate ever since.
