A man to take everything in stride, Derrick Veltraa has always been a man bursting with energy. Very little upsets him, if anything, as if he isn't aware when an insult is being made at his expense or that something unfortunate truly just befell him. As if this behavior was the sun, his ability to be unphased seems to be in part why soldiers under his command feel they can go beyond their normal means. Outside these traits, the man named Veltraa is stoic and forward and adheres to an attitude that one can only truly achieve their desires by tackling them head on. Given his nature, one may be lead to believe he literally means to tackle his problems.
While his father passed during his enrollment, Derrick supported his family with immediate enlistment and sacrificed his shot into early officer ranks. Nonetheless, the same enthusiasm he had as a child carried with him as a young adult. His eagerness to perpetually move forward won him the trust and hearts of many he served with. It wasn't long before the man found himself promoted to the officer ranks. While not graduating left his tactical expertise below average, the charisma Veltraa carries to this day has spurred those under his command onto feats one would typically attribute to more experienced or hardy soldiers. It was this apparent leadership ability that netted him a position in the Republic security detail, a position that pulled him from his homeworld but enabled him to gather the funds to put his younger sister through an education.
As such, though he left the Republic to return to Rendili after the galactic government abandoned the world, Derrick was not present when the majority of the population underwent Sith experimentation into what is now known as Croa. Since his return to his homeworld, Captain Veltraa happily took on his old rank in the Defense Force and what he has always been familiar with.

BIOGRAPHY
Born on the world of Rendili within the Inner Rim, Derrick Veltraa came from a mercantile family that fell into poverty a generation prior to his birth. Yet, rather than view the setback befallen his lineage before his birth and where it left as a negative, the young lad who would grow into the man he is today only saw it as challenges to prove his worth. A born leader, Derrick entranced his peers throughout his life with his energy and the almost permanent smile plastered on his face. For all intents and purposes the belief he would revitalize his family's wealth in business was a given. However, he instead rushed into the military academy to join the Defense Force, envisioning a life of heroics, battling pirates, and defending his homeworld.
