STRENGTHS
  • Massive Carrying Capacity: Deshet's carry a relatively large number of forces for its size, including six New Republic-style fighter wings and a full Imperial Army-style corps of troops.
  • Hard to Hit from a Distance: Deshet's hull is almost entirely covered in glossy black Nightshadow Anti-Sensor Treatment, making it difficult to spot from at a distance either visually or with many common sensors. Erebus jamming arrays can compound this difficulty by providing unreliable sensor data to enemy sensors. None of this is really true stealth like a cloaking device, however. It is usually not too hard to detect a Deshet's general presence, and it's entirely possible to visually target the Deshet at close ranges with typical targeting systems or by simple visuals.
WEAKNESSES
  • Low Maneuverability: The Deshet is not a very maneuverable warship, even compared to other vessels of similar size.
  • Lower Powered Weapons: While the Deshet has about the same overall firepower as many of its similarly sized opponents, most of this firepower is large numbers of smaller guns. This allows it provide a huge volume of fire, but it has few significant weapons that can easily crack similarly-sized ships in only a few shots.
DESCRIPTION
At a glance, the Deshet appears to be the latest in a long line of larger carrier designs produced by Lucerne Labs, and one can easily see characteristics of the earlier Union Assault Carriers or Deluge Battle Carriers incorporated in its design. Yet this superficial analysis overlooks the internal debate of what the Deshet really is within Lucerne Labs itself, where its unofficial nickname is "the Chimera" from its combination of star destroyer firepower, carrier capacity, and unusual stealth capabilities. This unusual combination is the result of conflicting demands placed into the design process by the Directorate itself, which is trying to get the most ship out of a budget that was less limited by initial upfront costs as by the latter maintenance costs of having multiple vessels. The resulting Deshet is thus fairly passably effective in a number of large ship roles, especially against the lower tech opponents the organizations often fights against in the Outer Rim and Unknown Regions. It remains to be seen if this chimera of a design will be effective in the long run.

Technical Explanations

Crew and Automation: As with most of Lucerne Labs warships, the Deshet makes extensive use of automation using Calor Series Biocomputers and organoform circuitry to run many of the day to day functions of the ship. This is further supplemented by many droid stations, which can recharge and maintain large numbers of droids which can further manpower needs and operating costs. The organic crew typically works in three sections during normal operations, with each section being responsible for an eight hour shift during the day. These shifts typically involve overseeing the droids and other automation that keeps the ship working. In times of combat and emergencies, the entire crew is mobilized to improve performance. The Deshet uses a buried, spartan CIC-style bridge in an amphitheatre layout, with the command staff positioned on the bottom floor around a large ARENA-7580 holo-projector.

Command and Control Facilities: The Deshet's size and host of starfighters makes it a natural choice as a flagship, and building off Lucerne Lab's experience with the Ocean Tide, the ships host a modest but well-thought of Tactical Operations Center that is separate from the ship's own CIC-style bridge. The TOC is dominated by a large ARENA-7580 HoloProjector which occupies the center of the room. This is typically used to display the battlefield in great detail in real time as seen by friendly sensors. The walls of the TOC are ringed with various computer consoles outfitted with CL-3 Command Links, comscans, and several small holo-tanks for coordinating important but small-scale actions. It is not uncommon for flag officers to modify the rooms to better suit their own physiologies and psychologies.

Engine Systems: As with most Lucerne Labs newer warships, the Deshet uses Nimble-5 Ion Engines. This produces a ship with a reasonable amount of speed for a ship its size that can be augmented by a boost function. Similarly, the Deshet also uses a Gulfstream maneuvering System, which improves the ship's handling at the cost of speed. The ship's hyperdrive is fairly bulky if reliable x1 system derived from the old MC85.. This ponderous drive can be linked to a Torrential Hyperdrive Booster. This is rarely done, as the command staff and crew tend to dislike the high maintenance of the system. The Deshet does have high-powered repulsorlifts that allow it to enter the atmosphere and land on most solid landmasses. Like many Mon Calamari ships, the Deshet can land on bodies of water and submerge itself to depths of several hundred meters.

Shielding Systems: The Deshet utilizes a single Aspis-class Shielding System, which provides adaptive but otherwise standard levels of protection for a larger star destroyer. This in turn can be supplemented by an Aegis II-class Anti-Concussion Field Generator, to make it more durable against projectile-armed foes. There is not typically enough power to have all of the ship's normal systems operational and have the Anti-Concussion Field Generator, which often means that to activate it, weapons, aspis shielding, or engine systems are taken partially offline to provide enough power for it to function.

Hull: Aesthetically, the Deshet has some clear Mon Calamari influence from the company's Hast-born shipwrights. However, the smooth, organic lines are solely for aesthetic purposes, but they are also contoured in smooth shapes to better absorb or deflect long-range sensor scans in combination with NightShadow Anti-sensor Coating, which also gives the ship its characteristic gloosy black exterior. On a deeper structural level, the Deshet's hull utilizes the biomemetic Ossis-class starship frame, which makes it more durable from kinetic attacks at the cost of lowered maneuverability. Most of the ship's internal structure is then constructed in a normal layered fashion, but several important areas including engineering and command sections also incorporate Agrinicrete shielding around the room, making these areas less affected by radiation weapons. These internals are then covered by Argentum-series Matrix Armor, which provides an average amount of defense for a ship its size.

Weapons Systems: The Deshet's most powerful weapon is a ventral mounted Thunderer-class Heavy Particle Cannon, which the Deshet can use to precisely bombard ground targets or pierce through the shields of weaker vessels. This weapon is backed by equidistantly spaced batteries of MegaMasers, turbolasers, mass driver batteries, and plasma energy torpedo launchers. The diversity and sheer number of these supporting batteries allow the Deshet to effectively take on many similarly warships and effectively defend itself from a multitude of smaller warships. A smattering of fire-linked flak cannons, defensive missile launchers, and variable charge laser cannons provide the Deshet with some ability to protect itself against starfighters, space troopers, warheads, and other small threats.

Carrying Capacity: The Deshet is notable for for its large number of small hangars dispersed across the ship. While each hangar can only carry one squadron, the ship altogether can host 18 squadrons of starfighters, giving it significant and flexible force projection for a ship its size. Typically a Deshet carries two wings of close-range assault fighters and another two wings of long-range space superiority starfighters. The two squadrons of support craft are typically used for simple ship to ship logistical purposes, but sometimes they are actually dedicated dropship squadrons to help ferry down the the Deshet's truly massive troop complement. Able to host a whole corps of troops along with their equipment and vehicles, the Deshet can be an imposing assault carrier. Such a large number of troops can be capable of taking fortified major cities and even small landmasses on many Mid Rim worlds. As the ship does have a large number of assault tubes, they can also be employed in large scale boarding actions against other capital starships or space stations. Since the Deshet does not have a large amount of support craft to ferry down such a large number of troops, it typically lands on a world and extends down massive ramps not unlike those of the Acclamator-class Assault Ship to let its thousands of troops march out.

Flight Support Features: The Deshet's hangar facilities build off Lucerne Lab's previous experience with the Deliverance-class Carrier, Union-class Assault Carriers, and Deluge-class Battle Carriers. Like these previous carriers, the Deshet's hangars are individually linked to a central maintenance bay through an ammunition/parts transport cart system, feature reinforced exterior blast doors, and contain catapult pressors to rapidly launch craft. Unlike these previous carriers, the individual hangars are quite small and rather luxurious. By having so many different small hangars, the Deshet does not have a singular, large area which can be specifically targeted or boarded by large assault craft. It also allows each craft to have its own catapult pressor, meaning that the Deshet can deploy its entire starfighter complement in a matter of seconds. The central maintenance area in the Deshet houses robotic lathes and milling machines, welders, and molecular furnaces. This allows Deshets the ability to make and manufacture components and munitions for its strikecraft on demand, which allows Deshets to operate for long amounts of time without needing constant resupply - ideal for the Directorate's frequent missions deep into the Unknown Regions: it can theoretically even build complete strikecraft given enough time. But for practical purposes, Deshet's limited manufacturing capabilities are usually not quick enough to grant any immediate tactical advantage (such as making fresh starfighters or large amounts of munitions in the middle of a battle).
