Strengths:
- Lightweight costruction compared to other weapons with that sort of range. The .338 Lapua has both exceptional range and, because it's not as beastly as the .50 BMG, it can be fired comfortably from a weapon that weighs less than 20 kilograms.
- .338 Lapua has excellent long range accuracy. With this rifle, it's rated for an effective range of 1500 meters before the round goes subsonic and, therefore, becomes impossible to predict.
- Because it's semiautomatic, it can be used in close quarters in a pinch, though it's not really all that well suited for the role.
- Though it has comparable range, the .338 Lapua doesn't pack the same punch as the .50 BMG. It'll reliably drop humanoid targets at extreme range, but you're not going to shoot down a snubfighter with one.
- Limited magazine and increased recoil mean that, although the DMR-1 can be used in close quarters in a pinch, it's not really well suited for it. The .338 Lapua carries more recoil than traditional assault rifle rounds, so it's difficult to aim reliably while firing rapidly, and the ten round magazine means it'll run out of ammo fairly quickly.
- The round is effective at long range. However, in order to make use of its range, extensive training is required. Long ranged marksmanship is as much an art as a science, one that takes years to master.
Description: The DMR-1 is the final rifle commissioned by [member="Noah Corek"] for the Galactic Alliance's SOF Group. It's an effective long ranged shooter that gives the boots on the ground the ability to reach out and touch the bad guy before they ever get a chance to know they're there.
On the surface, the DMR-1 isn't much different from a standard assault rifle. It's semiautomatic, magazine fed, and lightweight enough to be carried by a single soldier without requiring them to be freakishly strong. That's about where the similarities end, however. The DMR-1 has been optimized from muzzle brake to buttstock for accuracy. Adjustable cheek pad, optimized grip, free floating barrel, bipod, muzzle brake, the works. The end result is a rifle that, when paired with the exceptional .338 Lapua, can effectively engage personnel out to 1500 meters.
All this comes at a price, however. Each rifle must be personalized for the marksman. It is not an interchangeable piece of equipment, it is a highly specialized tool that requires months of training to get the most out of. A novice shooter might be able to perform marginally better than they would with a standard rifle, but they won't get anywhere close to the maximum effective range.
It's also worth nothing that, while it can be used to clear a room in a pinch, it's not really well suited for it. Between the greater than average recoil and the smallish magazine size, you have to be exceptionally careful with it, otherwise you're going to find yourself staring down the barrel of a .45 without Shinedown to sing about it.
