It's an improvement, but it's too little too late.
What Destiny really needed was some form of "Spartan Ops" with custom designed maps and stories being released every few weeks, not every few months. Additionally, Destiny has still utterly failed to live up to the "open world" exploration aspect, let alone the "explore the solar system" aspect. You can't even fly the starfighter from area to area, let alone enjoy some dogfighting or any form of real vehicle on vehicle combat. Yeah, there are a few missions on Mars and Venus where you get an armed "Ghost" or "Chopper" style vehicle to toy around with...
But Destiny still falls flat on its face IMO. Even ignoring the shortcomings from the gameplay side of things, I simply expect better storytelling from Bungie and a much more rich and detailed backstory than what we are shown in Destiny.
"Rise of Iron" does nothing to fix that. It's simply a childish attempt to milk more money from teenagers by coming up with the silliest and "most hard-core" sounding title they could think of, and telling players that they can evolve from "Guardians" to "Iron Lords" if they continue to play the game.
Yes. There are features that are vast improvements. The ability to yank the stats from a new piece of gear and apply those stats to existing gear that mechanically or aesthetically is more appealing to you is a feature that should have been in the game from the start. Likewise, some of the new missions and strikes are a fun change of pace from the previous missions and strikes. Sadly, as I said above, it is simply too little too late.
