OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
- Intent: To codify a PC-turned-NPC so that he may continue to serve as an antagonist.
- Role: A former Sith apprentice of Kolinahr and later Ishani, now the leader of a Zaathrian rebel cell who reject the Pantheon's rule.
- Permissions: N/A
- Links: Zaathru
- Age: Adult
- Force Sensitivity: Knight
- Species: Shaal
- Appearance: Over 7 feet tall and bristling with muscle, Dev is a red-skinned Shaal with a sharp gaze and an even sharper smile. His snakelike eyes have turned orange with the Dark Side; he flaunts his corruption as a sign of power and pride. He wears a black cloak and trousers, generally preferring to go shirtless (he thinks the ladies like it). He is exceedingly proud of the size of his meticulously polished black horns, which among Shaal are a sign of virility and dominance. But if you look closely, you will notice that the left horn is slightly smaller than the other. It was cut off in battle—a humiliating sign of defeat which he tries to hide.
- Name: Dev Ossian
- Loyalties: Himself; he is loyal to his followers and allies only as long as they are useful to him.
- Wealth: Varies wildly; every time he comes into wealth, he seems to lose it shortly afterward.
- Notable Possessions:
- Skills: A highly intelligent being who is unfortunately ruled by his passions, Dev is crafty enough to manipulate a situation, whether to ensure his own survival or give his allies what they need to succeed. He is a charismatic leader with a dark charm and a collector of powerful secrets. He also possesses survival skills and can live in the desert indefinitely. His knowledge of galactic technology is limited, but he knows more than the average Zaathrian and is a quick learner. He is a self-taught starship mechanic.
- Languages: Basic, Shaalite, Zaathri (understands but cannot speak)
- Personality: Dev is one of those people who gets a kick out of just being alive. He enjoys being an evil villain and participating in the grand story of the galaxy. For him, just being there in the moment is great fun. His lust for life has given him a weird charm; his charisma has allowed him to gain followers. However, while he fancies himself a mastermind, Dev is not as smart or powerful as he likes to think he is. Greedy and hedonistic, he has many desires to fulfill and a taste for the finer things in life. His proclivities are a distraction at best, a drain on his resources at worst, and can result in unintended consequences.
- Weapon of Choice: Lightsaber | The Force
- Combat Function: In addition to Sith training, Dev was taught the ways of the Benandanti by his master, learning how to dreamwalk and create illusions.
- Force Abilities (Force Users Only):
- Basic Sith Powers (telekinesis, precognition, etc.)
- Darkshear
- Deadly Sight
- Force Drain
- Beast Control
- Flow-walking
- Sith Knight: Dev is a bona fide Sith Knight (albeit one who received an unorthodox education).
- Not a Puny Human: Over seven feet tall and bristling with muscles, Dev is big, strong, and imposing.
- Charismatic: There's something strangely compelling about Dev, which has led to him gaining followers with relative ease.
- Big Horns Get in the Way: Those massive horns Dev is so proud of tend to be a bit of a nuisance, forcing him to duck and turn his head just to get through doorways. Not to mention they are also very easy for his enemies to grab hold of.
- New to the Galaxy: Dev is still relatively primitive and can't use most tech commonly found throughout the galaxy. This isn't a problem so long as he's on Zaathru, but should he have need to travel elsewhere, well... Best to have a geeky guide who knows their stuff.
- Delusions of Grandeur: Fancying himself a mastermind, Dev is not as smart or powerful as he likes to think he is.
- Greedy & Hedonistic: Dev desires much and has a taste for the finer things in life. His proclivities are a distraction from more important matters and can result in unintended consequences.
- Looks Like a Devil, Walks Like a Devil, Talks Like a Devil: Dev is pretty unambiguously evil both in looks and demeanor. You could ally with him, but never trust him.
Born in the desert on the remote world of Zaathru, Dev Ossian was a crafty child with a mysterious secret power. His childhood ended when he was chosen by Kolinahr, the shapeshifting trickster god and champion leader of his tribe, to be his servant.
Unbeknownst to Dev, Kolinahr—real name Samyaza Hoole—was not truly a god. He was just some Shi'ido Dark Jedi from the nearby planet of Lao-mon who had been using his Force abilities to pose as a deity and rule over the Shaal for nearly two centuries. Nonetheless, he taught Dev everything he knew... and then left the planet. Something about wanting to take care of his elderly mother...?
Well, Dev was something of a god himself by now, wasn't he? So what was stopping him from traveling the stars? He managed to track down a ship belonging to another Zaathrian deity and, by reading the manual, figured out how to operate the vessel. He spent some time wandering the galaxy, taking in the sights, trying new experiences, and killing a lot of people. His actions eventually drew the attention of his master, who caught him and dragged him back to Zaathru.
Alas, circumstances had changed at home and a new power had emerged. A group of Force Users calling themselves the Pantheon had taken over the roles of deities, ruling over the natives. Kolinahr made a bold attempt at nipping these upstarts in the bud, but was defeated by Desdinova (aka Arcturus Dinn ) in a duel. Rather than die like his master, Dev chose to serve the Pantheon and survive, even consuming Kolinahr's flesh when bidden.
Dev eventually grew into the good graces of the Pantheon, earning the particular favor of the goddess Adamanthea ( Ishani Dinn ) who took him as her apprentice and finished his training. Later on, while the two went to investigate rumors of a new Winter God emerging in the frozen wastes, Adamanthea was captured by strangers and taken away in a starship. Dev managed to escape, but once again found himself alone and stranded. He ingratiated himself with the locals, and began to tentatively hatch plans for revenge.
Most recently, he was the alleged instigator in a failed uprising against the Pantheon. An army of rebels, led by the Shaal Potiphar, attempted to take the Holy City, but were intimidated into submission during a confrontation with Eloise Dinn and Amani Serys . Dev was not present during the attack, having actually chosen to distance himself from what he expected would be a huge mistake on Potiphar's part. He was right. To properly overthrow their divine overlords, the people of Zaathru would have to do better than that...
