Dev thread for our own company and shipyards?

It has occured to me via much research that there are several companies that own shipyards in the Republic space. The wuestion is why dont we own our own shipyards and our own company to produce new fleet designs.

Also are we still able to submit new ships or is that closed for now?

I have a carrier design and a point defense ship I'd like to produce.

Most of the companies that are run by Republic members are often contracted to the Galactic Republic as a whole. Besides, capitalism is a great and marvelous thing, especially when considering it's on such a massive scale that is the Star Wars galaxy. Saying that, I wholeheartedly encourage you to possibly start your own shipbuilding company, make some designs, make some ships, and earn a little cash for your character by contracting it to the Republic.

I put up a thread in the senate trying to get funding. I plan to make an internal company for us so we can simply retrofit all our designs that are old and then begin making new vessels.

There is no need to contract to outsiders and risk the security of our fleet when we can know where exactly our vessels came from and who makes them.

It would also cost more to make them and whatnot. We'd have to get the resources, hire our own workers, and increase taxes on the Republic citizens to produce such weapons. Sure it would mean jobs for the economy, but I don't see a point in making all manufacturers government-owned. That's kinda like a socialist-esque economy.

Beretta is a firearms manufacturing company in real life. Even though they're based in Italy and is therefore an Italian company, Beretta handguns are extremely common in American police forces and are even more so extensively used by American military personnel. What's to say we can't be like that?

Having an internal manufacturer would be great. I'm not sure if we have any, but I'm sure that it'd be possible for you to make one of your own and put it to Republic service.

What is this?

Put all the veterans in the GR military?

I know we've already got Army, AIr Force, and Navy already represented... ;)

It's worth noting that Beretta actually has multiple plants in the United States specifically because the government does want to have control of the facilities in case of a war.

Valykrie, I'm also running a company (Lucerne Labs) dealing with starships if you'd like another set of eyes to look at your things. It's worth noting that the tier level of your company can restrict the size of the starship that a company can make. Right now, there are only a few established companies at Chaos that can make the really big ships (not sure how big your carrier is going to be, but I thought I'd add it).

The other point is that by denying the Companies who make most of their designs for the Republic a reason to exist, you take jobs away from the people there.

And you'd be forcing multiple company owners to abandon the Republic in favor of factions who would use their designs they worked hard on.

It's also worth noting that the M9 is, in fact, a POS ;)

Personal opinion - always had a Sig 226/228 per unit policy.

Addressing the topic - it is unlikely that use/contributions to currently established third-party entities would diminish as a matter of government policy. Largely for the reasons indicated by Camellia, so that shouldn't be a massive concern. Perhaps explore the possibility for your company to provide a very specific type of vessel/service? It may restrict the scope of what you're able to do, but if it's exclusively for the Republic, that shouldn't matter.

Government's keep plenty of business that would otherwise go bankrupt, afloat ;)

I could have sworn that at one point Daella and I set up a Republic corporation for use by the faction.

Regardless, it is largely assumed that a Major Faction itself doesn't actually need a company. It is presumed that the government itself owns shipyards and factories that are churning out weapons and ships, any tech sub thats for the faction itself can be labeled simply with "The Republic" as a manufacturer and it should be accepted.

Not to mention current standing Republic businesses that do and have been churning out ships for the Republic such as Rendili and KDY.

I know for a fact that KDY is open to allowing anyone to write ship subs for the company if they are being made for the Republic. Can't speak for Rendilli, but I'm sure it's really not an issue.
