Development for Little Elpsis

Well, Elpsis' just concluded a very fun duel with Raien Keth!

Unfortunately for her, she got demolished and can look forward to a hospital stay. On the bright side, she melted his hand and hurt him pretty badly, thus accelerating his eventual transformation into a golem!

So I'm wondering what new skills she should develop. So far she's almost solely focused on pyromancy Force-wise. She's a natural empath and is slowly starting to put those abilities to good use. Theoretically she has farsight thanks to her mother. She's good at tutaminis because pyromancer.

I think that's largely it.

Thanks for all your comments!

Do you want her to be more of what Elpsis is naturally, or to develop different facets of her or her personality out?

Bit of both, I think. I'd like to build up on what she already is, but alsoe expand the character a bit. Part of the process of her growing up and finding her place.

I'd like to make her more distinct from Sio, since she has a number of similarities with younger Siobhan.

Agreed, she's kinda lacking in that department. She has tutaminis, but that's it. Hence why TK mucked her up in the duel with Raien.

Speaking of TK, I'm inclined to say that Elpsis will be average or below average with it, in other words nothing special. Already got Sio as a powerhouse.

Yep! Totally can.

It's very likely that Elpsis will hit on her. :D

Always a challenge to make characters distinct, as you know what works, its so easy to want to reuse it!

For defensive stuff, what I usually go to
Bubbles, barriers, shields.
Elements like wind, water to push away the opponent, shield attacks. (I've always wanted to do earth)
Blinding, stuns, or force disconnections.
Got your movement enhancers to avoid things, or illusionary stuff like dopplegangers.
Confusion, or Fear to stop someone, (pretty much what Rai relies on against npcs, that or combusted material shards)

Any of that sound good?

Generally Mental defense is good against Raien, and useful to get anyway. Healing him is very, very effective against him, sapping his drive. Elpsis could also work on healing herself as she fights, another alternative.

He's very, very used to fighting Masters, especially tk or lightening, very much the 'underdog' type of character concept. So a Sio attack is going to get an even harder punch, like the tk roll they did into the wall or deflected lightening, he'd try to use her force somehow to supplement his technique, trying to get her to hit herself, like Elpsis's fire burning her.

Sounds a bit like Sithy Sio. That might be an amusing fight one day, since she punches extremely hard and has an absurd pain tolerance, but isn't used to people copying her moves. :D

Sounds very good. Only char I have who uses Force Suppression is Sumiko, and she's more of a Sith magic type. So it's not something I've overused. Blinding goes well with pyromancy.

Also good. Both of Elpsis' parents are strong illusionists, so she ought to have the talent. Just needs incentive to use it. Maybe the Raien duel serves as a catalyst.

Aye. Somehow I get the impression that flooding Raien with fluffy light side stuff would be the worst form of torture for him.

I don't know what you were talking about, but I was going to offer a beach holiday with [member="Elpsis Kallikora"].

A clothing optional beach holiday. :p

Given this some more thought.

I'm still very sad about Raien Keth dying in the GA invasion. But Elpy totally contributed by melting his hand!

Yes, totally. :D

Anyhow, I think the biggest issue with Elpsis is differentiating her from Sio, so I've given some thoughts for alternate skill sets that build up on what she already has and make her useful enough for Firemane to want to keep her around.

Pilot: Elpsis was a smuggler, so although she's not an ace she knows how to fly a ship and would presumably know how to get out of a tight situation. Admittedly her writer has no clue about piloting stuff, but that could be learned via IC threads. Elpsis probably crashes a lot.

Presumably if she goes all Kara Thrace [member="Valiens Nantaris"] will try to drag me into fleeting.

Mentalist: So far my only mentalist char is Sumiko, who's an evil queen. Elpsis inherited natural empathy from her mother and also has farsight. So this is a potential direction to go. Just need to figure out a way to employ farsight that's not metagamey or godmodding since I suppose it's easy to do it wrong and make it gimmicky.

Healer/Combat medic: Also a very viable direction since her mother is one. Would also be a nice contrast to how violent Elpsis usually is. However, personally I'd think of it as more of an adjunct than her potential primary skill set.

Alignment: So far Elpsis is pretty Neutral though with some shades of darkness and a violent streak. Many of her role models are darksiders (Sio, Tempest, Laina), though she might mellow and calm down a bit since she's bonding rather well with her mother.

She did, his saber forms were very much reduced! Which usually back up his mental technique. Never fear someone will rise to be Raien Mk2 eventually! With elements of his memory inside that armor again.

Was very ready for him to go but was quite sad to do the sign off at the end! :D Thought i'd be like and that's a wrap.

Didn't realise how much that line said, that's a ten year old character or so's last post! Never killed one off so old before, and it will inspire me to bring back my first ever sith for a round I think, if only to give him his goodbye too!
