Distant Repose

Ah, yes. It's me again. The wishy washy nice guy with a baggage of poor mistakes. Hello.

I was in Cape May's Coast Guard Training Camp for 2.5 weeks. I was medically discharged because I wasn't mentally prepared for what went down and my body broke down rather quickly because of it. That's recent history and another topic in itself, but that's what happened and I'm back here now.

That was all a month ago.

So, what am I doing now? I'm working for Securitas as a security guard. I've just started, so the job is currently standing around a Kroger's with nothing to do. Hopefully I can move onto more active work sites and, next month, I will be working at an OSF hospital. I've gotten a car, car insurance and I have an apartment set up to share with my best friend.

So, where does that leave SWRP Chaos? Well, recently, I've connected with other Edge of the Empire role players and it's awesome...besides only being able to meet once a week and then sometimes not because plans unexpectedly change. I love Edge, but I can't deny that I also love SWRP Chaos. So, I've been back all this time...but, I haven't touched SWRP. Why not?

When I first joined, I did so because I'd come up with a solid character design that resonated deeply with me: Jarven Zexxel. Jarven was an extension of my psyche: sad, quirky, good-hearted, a little foolish, a jokester, desiring violence, etc. He was like Wolverine: an animalistic, confrontational bad ass. However, as time went on, Jarven became less like Wolverine and more like Logan. Now, I like Logan as a movie. I don't like the character transition from Wolverine to Logan, though. It was far more frustrating for me to see Logan old and dying, especially since I knew it was specifically so that Hugh Jackman could finish his contract. So, Jarven is Logan now, which has lead me to not want to role play him anymore. He's an easier breakdown to understand why.

OOC: My mood and mindset started to change. I got more experienced at RPing. My tastes changed. The meta shifted "CHAOStically". Don't click on that link or you'll get gotted.
IC: He was getting older; more antiquated, less relevant. I couldn't do new things with him. His story was becoming something that I wasn't feeling wholeheartedly.

So, what did I do? I threw up a LOT of character concepts, tried to run with them and then lost interest either quickly or soon enough. That's why I have too many characters in my roster.

There are other factors that make me wary of Chaos.
  • I learned that it wasn't the faction that made me: it was me who helped make the faction (Red Ravens), which means I can't just make a character only to help a certain faction. I have to make a character for myself and then see if my character would help any particular faction.
  • Players have too much power. In a normal role playing setting, the environment and NPCs (such as civilians, natural disasters, stellar phenomenon, bad guys, good guys, bounty hunters, etc) are decided by a GM who is on his own team, who does not necessarily share the Player's goals. Here, players have to be the GM, too.
  • There's no random chance. There's nothing to surprise us because we've already thought it out and plan on using it. Now, there have been plenty of people, like Tefka and a few other players I know, that do create surprises and unexpected story arcs, but that's because they take on the role of a GM in a major way.

So, my new plan? I'm going to plan. Build. Make something new; something I like a lot. I'm going to research how he would fit into this timeline. But first, I have a wedding to attend. Ciao, friendos.
