News Doctor Doom casting

Robert Downey Jr has returned to Marvel. Not as Tony Stark & Iron Man but as Doctor Victor Von Doom.
Will he be scarred up and unrecognizable? Will he be a variant from another universe who became Dr Doom instead of Iron Man?
What do you think?

I am not at all familiar with the FF comics. Pretty much everything I know about the character comes from my nerd boyfriend, who really likes Doctor Doom. So, based on what little knowledge I have secondhand, the casting of RDJ seems... odd?

He is a very talented actor, and I have no doubt that he could play the drama well. But he doesn't seem to be anyone's first choice for the role. It feels like either fan service to bring him back as a new character, or RDJ was wanting to get back in on the Marvel money making machine and so signed on to play a different character. Maybe some combination of both.

I dunno. I'm kind of tired of Marvel movies at this point lol. They had an excellent 10 year run leading up to Endgame, but I'm an adult now and don't really have much of a stake in it anymore. It'll probably be fine.

Well they brought back the Russo brothers and they were done after their 4 movie run in marvel.
I think Kevin Geiger is hoping they can find lightning on the bottle again.

The Russos did:
Captain America 2 which hit for 700+ million
Captain America 3 at 1.1+ billion
Avengers Infinity War at 2+ billion
Avengers Endgame at 2.7+ billion

Disney wants and needs another big win or two.
So, I'm not entirely surprised they went to RDJ for Doom now that they've scrapped the Kang Dynasty.

I'm with you in that marvel hit it's heyday, but they are throwing money hoping to reclaim it. I like the Russos and RDJ, but for me I guess it depends on how the story plays and how the trailer looks in a few years lol.

With all of the multiverse stuff, I’m leaning toward this could be a Tony Stark turned evil in another universe kind of thing. Big fan of RDJ and the Russo Bros‘ Marvel films. The phase 4 movies have been very weak, some just bad. Spider Man, which may technically be the end of phase 3, was objectively great but subjectively not one of my favorites. Shang Chi was pretty good, and I really liked Thor Love and Thunder and Guardians 3. Others were pretty trash, especially compared to what had come before.

I'm excited for RDJ, I"m sure he will do awesome.

I remember when Heath Ledger, rest his soul was announced as the Joker for the Dark Knight, people were in an uproar.

But he was absolutely phenomenal in that role. Best Joker we've ever had imo.
