Dominik Borra vs Atiniir Starrider

Our combatants find themselves in a simple practice arena. There are no crowds of cheering spectators, and no obstacles either. The arena is free of any distractions. Today, there is only the fight.

The arena is circular, twenty meters wide. A waist-high duracrete barrier surrounds it. Being thrown out of the arena does not count as a loss, but leaving it voluntarily will be taken as surrender. It's reasonably well lit, with the lights adjusted so as not to shine in the fighters' eyes.

The floor is smooth dirt, packed tightly by centuries of feet treading the same ground. It's slightly uneven, but not enough to really throw off footing. Combatants need not worry about anything but the fight.

The fighters will enter from opposite sides. The fight will go on until either one or both fighters is dead or incapacitated, a fighter surrenders either verbally or by leaving the ring, or time runs out.

Good luck, and may the Force be with you.

Atiniir stepped into the ring ready for a fight. As he faced his opponent, he considered his options. With such a large and open area his vibrosword would not be the optimal weapon to start with, since it was intended for skirmishing in the tight corridors of a starship. So Atiniir pulled his heavy blaster from his belt and checked the power level before setting the weapon to stun. He then looked to his opponent.

"All right," he said, standing in a ready position, "Let's dance."

Dominik stepped into the ring, his black armor almost gleaming with the lights. If only he polished it, but dullness reflected less light. His twin pistols were in his hands, his sword, Ebony, magnetically held to his back. His sniper rifle was hung right next to it with a strap. He looked at his opponent, his left eye analyzing him.

Teens, Mandolorian, one heavy pistol that was set to stun. Ready stance to move and shoot.

Dominik smiled, keeping his pistols live. "Alright. I'll lead." His voice was scrambled due to his helmet. He raised both pistols, firing multiple shots at the young boy while strafing to the left, jogging.

Atiniir dodged the opening flurry of blaster shots, rolling and coming up before zig-zagging in and out, avoiding the shots with reflexes honed by a lifetime of piracy. He fired several shots as he closed to melee range.

His cybernetic eye and his training under Sith allowed him to dodge the blasts deftly. Stun blasts were never a good thing to be hit with.

80 kilograms, vibrosword on person, closing distance..

Dominik quickly dropped his left pistol, and with that open free hand, reached back and brought out Ebony, shooting a blast at his right side before slashing at his left, coming down in an arc.

Atiniir smiled as he reached melee range. Then his opponent pulled a sword and attacked in both directions. Atiniir couldn't dodge to the side. He was worried for a second, but as the sword came down and the blasts fired, Atiniir realized what to do. Using his velocity of being at a full-out sprint, Atiniir ducked down and slid. It wasn't as fast of a slide as it might have been on a starship floor, but at the speed he was going he was still capable of decent speed and distance.

The shots flew harmlessly over his head, and the sword slid down inches past his face. Atiniir shot for his opponent's legs. With luck, his opponent's focus on hitting him, and the shift of his weight towards a forward slash would mean that striking his legs would throw him off-balance. Just to be sure, Atiniir fired several stun blasts from the hip as he slid.

Stun blasts at point blank range would normally do a lot on somebody. But against Besker Armor, nothing especially so with a Faraday Cage. The blasts rang harmlessly off of his legs, and other parts of his body as [member="Atiniir Starrider"] fired at him. Dominik turned around to the boy on the ground, sheathing his sword on his back.

He extended his left hand toward the boy, and using the small tractor beam in his arm, pushed him harder into the ground, effectively keeping him in place. "Wrong ammunition." He pointed his pitsol at the young boy, and fired two shots at his face.

Atiniir found himself in a very bad position. His opponent had him trapped, and though he could still shift partially, he couldn't rise. He looked back at his opponent, and saw the blaster. His eyes filled with fear, but luckily he managed to shift his head just enough to have the shots slam harmlessly into the ground. They were still close enough for him to feel the heat, and he winced. To the quip about his choice of firepower, Atiniir was repulsed.

"Unlike you, I don't kill for pleasure," he said, still struggling to rise, "Unlike you, I fight with honor, decency, and respect for my opponent." The force pressing on his chest kept pressing Atiniir down, but he fought it, worming his limbs underneath him with great effort. He managed to roll over and get to his hands and knees, locking the joints to keep him in place.

"You're a coward if you intend to win like this," Atiniir said through clenched teeth, looking up at the blaster barrel, "Turn off this blasted tractor beam and fight like a man; like a true warrior!"

(OOC: I will not accept character death. If you intend to win this here, please find a more peaceful way to do it.)

OOC Note: Character death in the GBA does not count towards the proper universe. In other words, you can die here and it won't affect your story. If that presents a problem, you may withdraw from the match.

OOC: Ya, sorry. I thought that you already knew that. [member="Atiniir Starrider"]

Thank you for clearing that up [member="Eralam"]

It wasn't like the tractor beam held the entire body, it just put a pressure, or a force on the being. The fact that he was able to move get on his hands and knees and look up was impressive enough. But, this wasn't about honor, or cowardice. In his experience, trying to do the right thing in a fight got you dead. You took things how they were handed to you and you dealt with it the fastest and most efficient way possible.

"After what the Sith did to me, I'm no man. And I'm not interested in honor." He said before pulling the trigger of his gun.

Perhaps it was the knowledge of his own imminent death, or just sadness for this man who knew nothing of honor, but something caused Atiniir to lower his head and slump slightly. The shot hit him in the back, just to the right of his spine. It was slowed slightly by his blast armor, but hurt like **** just the same. Atiniir collapsed.

"I yield!" Atiniir yelled at the top of his lungs. Atiniir didn't like losing, but there was a difference between sacrificing for a good reason, and for mere pride. He had lost this battle, but there would be others. This man had won because of his superior technology, but someday Atiniir would have tech like that himself.

"I give up!" Atiniir said, "Are you so honorless that you would kill a man who has given up the fight!?"

(OOC: I understand the whole "doesn't count" thing, but I still don't like my character dying. This way you still win but you don't have to shoot me to do it. Duel is conceded, and I ask you please don't kill me.)

Very well. The match is over, and [member="Dominik Borra"] will advance to the next round. I'll have a proper judgment up in a little while, after coffee and nicotine have taken hold.

Alright gents, this was a duel well fought. You both have the makings of fine duelists, though you're not quite there yet. I'd love to see you both stick around in the GBA and hone your skills some more. We're trying to get people more involved in challenge matches, so if you ever want to practice, just put up a request and we'll see who takes up the call.

Now this is is the part where I break things down and tell you both what you did right and what you did wrong.

Both of you need to work on including a little more detail in your posts. You don't need to write a novel each and every time, but at least a couple of short paragraphs would be nice. At a minimum, you should include where you are and how you're moving in relation to your opponent. If you're firing, how many shots and where you're aiming. If you're swinging a sword, the direction you're attacking from, the path you intend the sword to follow, and your point of aim. As you go along and see how others write, you'll pick up more tips and tricks, but that's probably a good place to start.

  • I can respect your desire not to kill unnecessarily, as well as the desire not to be killed yourself. Starting with stun bolts from the get go is a ballsy move. It's always nice to see dedication to writing a character a particular way carry over to an arena. Until you learn how to really use them effectively, you're going to be at a handicap in nearly every confrontation, but don't let that discourage you. Some of the best duelists I've ever faced used stun weaponry, and were better off for it. It forced them to fight smarter.
  • You actually fought the cleaner duel here, and if the fight had gone on longer and you hadn't ended up in such a bad position, that might have swung things in your favor.
  • Gotta work on that detail. Two sentences do not a post make, and there are plenty of folks who would find that to be kinda insulting. It's like I said earlier: you don't need to write a novel, but you need enough data so that it's clear exactly where you are and what you're doing.
  • The idea of losing a character, even in an unofficial setting, is hard to swallow. But, so long as you hold onto the mindset that you will not let them die no matter what, you're holding yourself back. By accepting that character death is possible, you take a lot of weight off of yourself, and it opens up all kinds of doors in terms of tactics and strategy. If you make peace with the idea now, you can set yourself up to be an extraordinary duelist later on down the road. On the other hand, if you don't, any sort of fight is going to be way more stressful than it ought to be.

  • Congrats on the win. Not sure what dueling experience you had prior to the tournament, but to win your first match in the GBA in a tournament, no less, is something to be proud of. Well done. I look forward to seeing how you do in the second round.
  • Stun bolts do not behave like traditional blaster bolts. Even with full beskar'gam, there are gaps in armor, and no armor is a perfect Faraday cage. Even if it was, they're not necessarily electrical in nature. Taking that many shots at point blank range ought to have done something.
  • You did call a hit at one point.

  • You cannot state that you directly affect an opponent. It's a pretty small thing here, but in a more tense situation, that can cause all kinds of trouble. You can say that you tried to push him into the ground, but you can't actually state that you do. It's up to them to call the hits on them, and it's my job to make sure they do. Just something to keep in mind for the future.

About the stun bolt thing, I took a bit trying to decide how that would work. I'm in a skype chat with a bunch of other people on the site, and I asked their advice. Multiple people responded that stun bolts wouldn't do anything if I had the Beskar armor on, so I went with it. I added in the bit about Faraday Cage because they mentioned it was like a blaster taser kind of thing, so I looked it up on wookiepedia, and couldn't find that it wasn't electrical, or was. So I added it in there anyhow. Sorry about that.

About the calling a hit. I need to work on that. No excuses there. That was the first time I had used that special gadget there, but I will be mindful of that next time.

Sorry I played dirty man. Right before I got to the computer and read this I was regretting doing that, but I thought that's what my character would do. If you want to roleplay outside of GBA, I would be happy to.
