Designed to replace the comparably hacked together design of the seven remaining vessels of the Storm-class's Torrent-type stealth torpedo frigate, the Downburst-class is a stealth torpedo frigate heavily specialized in sneak attacks and recon roles. The Downburst's are even more heavily armed than their Torrent-type predecessors, having twice as many heavy Strill launchers, while also reducing other kinds of armament. The frigate is also capable of firing it's launchers while in cloak. Along with this, Nightshadow paint and baffled engines allow it to be even more difficult to detect. Along with this, the ship use CST's Central A.I. to reduce the crew needs, and a set four DL-1 decoy launchers.
On the flip side of this, while it can fire in stealth, a Downburst-class's own weapons can still give away it's position, and the baffles require it to slow down when in use. It also possesses limited offensive capabilities outside of it's launchers, and little in the way of defenses. To top it off, the A.I. in independent, and can disregard or disobey orders they see as wong.
