Draft Invasion/Campaign Rules

Based on the thread and polls on this matter, this is a draft of the new Invasion Rules. I hope that after Valen we can get a trial happening and give these a thorough testing.

New Invasion/Campaign Rules Proposal Draft

At any stage a major faction may declare war on another major faction provided it is not the attacker in another ongoing campaign. Multiple factions are allowed to declare war on a single enemy faction provided the attackers are allied (with an IC thread setting those terms) beforehand. A defending faction may call whichever allied factions it wishes into the war.

Before the declaration of war attacking and defending major faction leaders must discuss OOC the timing for the start of hostilities and if there are any special conditions they wish to negotiate. Neither side has a veto or filibuster to stop or delay the war: this discussion is a courtesy. If OOC issues are delaying the campaign an RPJ should be consulted.

There must also be an OOC thread created mentioning the attacking and defending factions in the title and the phrase ‘Declaration of War’, eg “Sith Empire Declaration of War on the Republic”. This thread will handle the OOC posts and comments for the campaign. It will also set out any special terms agreed on by the respective faction leaders.

Once war has been declared both sides may start any number of invasions of enemy planets with the following condition; the target planet must be within one map hex of a friendly planet. If a planet is invaded successfully then this new conquest can be used to measure distance for future invasions.

Important Note: All Invasion threads must be labelled with your faction’s name, the planet being targeted and the defending faction. For example "The Sith Come to Kashyyyk: Sith Empire Invasion of the Republic"

Individual characters may not participate in more than one invasion at a time. If an invasion the character is in concludes they may move to another.

The ‘Requesting Aid’ rules are unaffected except that up to 10 characters may assist a faction for the campaign. These individual allied characters cannot participate in more than one thread at a time.

In order to claim victory in each invasion thread, the attacking faction must fulfil all the following criteria:
  • At least 5 unique members. Allied or minor faction members do not count.
  • At least 100 posts in the thread.
  • At least one post within the previous 48 hours.
  • The thread has not gone for longer than a month (without prior agreement between both faction leaders).
As the thread nears its conclusion, faction leaders can discuss who has won. If no agreement can be reached an Admin is to be contacted by board PM to adjudicate. This PM should include both faction’s leaders as well as the Admin. That Admin will assign one or more RPJs to adjudicate the thread. The RPJ’s judgement is final.
If the attackers are victorious, the planet passes to them. If the defender is victorious they retain complete control of it.

There is no time limit on how long a campaign can last. Peace must be signed IC. A peace treaty prevents the faction declaring war on that same faction for 30 days.

Please post if you see anything that needs correcting or changing. I have made these rules comprehensive to try and limit any loopholes or confusion. I can produce a TL;DR version as well once this has been agreed on.

I like it. Thanks for all the hard work! @[member="Tegaea Alcori"]

I am just a small bit confused about how diplomatic invasions would be handled, i.e the peaceful invasion of planets which sometimes goes on.

  • Does this still require a declaration of war? Say against AoL? We could do that, but it'd be more just in name only.
  • Also in this case does it still require a 1 Hex range? Seeings as no ships or troops are involved.

Thanks for any help.

What do you mean by a diplomatic invasion? I’m not sure we’ve had that between two factions.

If you are referring to liberations of major faction worlds by minor ones, Staff is considering that question at the moment and it will get its own set of rules.

This is so perfect except for the victory conditions part. I know my opinion counts for little, but the reason I say this is because agreements made at the end rather than the beginning allows leaders and commanders to flake out or change their minds about certain conditions last minute. When in reality if you lose in war, you lose. You just cut the losses and move on to the next theatre. There is no defiding what you can scrape up or salvage after its already been lost to battle.

I've edited the post above to be a bit clearer. Does that resolve your concern @[member="Alachei Mnemenos"]

I didn't think there was either, so it must be rare, people have invaded via diplomatic channels before I was told in Jedi chat.
However as it might happen to us, I was wondering what the policy would be. Someone could put up a war declaration to fit the purpose of it certainly and all would still work. That would just leave the 1 hex question.

Don't worry I'll always be blowing something up :). I think we think alike.

@[member="Kei Amadis"] I would say the rules would apply all the same as for a normal one except that it would be by diplomatic rather than military means. I think one hex is a good limit, as it stops cherry picking across the galaxy.
