SPECIAL FEATURES
- Twin barrels that alternate between firing.
- Can be converted into a battlefield emplacement, but this is meant for product demonstrations and so struggles with charge rate and ammo capacity when used in this mode.
- Twin-barrel design enables a faster rate of fire by alternating between them, giving the capacitors time to recharge, which allows a muzzle energy that would otherwise require an impractically slow rate of fire.
- High armour penetration due to the high muzzle energy, which outperforms conventional slugthrower designs.
- Vulnerable to EMPs unlike conventional slugthrowers due to the capacitors, which are likely to be more vulnerable than the attached starship unless incorporated into the armour.
- Brittle rounds, caused by the properties of Mu-Metal, result in the high armour penetration being negated by extremely hard armour, where armour penetration would be most needed.
Developed by Tygeria Dragon Armaments as their debut starship weapon by using their existing knowledge of duranium and ballistics, the Dragon SCG1 aims to outperform standard laser cannons in per-shot damage to the target by using the magnetic properties of Alloy 25 and Mu-Metal to accelerate slugs to hypervelocity. The coilgun was developed to allow use as an emplacement due to the company's lack of experience with demonstrating starships, weapons and so looked to using existing battlefield scale firing ranges.
The Dragon SCG1 is designed to be mounted onto fighters, interceptors and light freighters as a primary weapon.
With this coilgun Tygeria Dragon Armaments aims to enter the more glamorous, compared to policing and counterinsurgency, starship market and to see if their technology is effective when scaled up.
