Why ditch the money of Mercenary work for a career as a solider?
Remorse, that is the most simple of the reasons, and a desire
to make himself a better person, if anything he can be dubbed a
very penitent man, crimes repaid by working for one of the
better forces in the Galaxy.
But it’s not inescapable, he has a gruff demeanor to most things
that is reminiscent of his time working as a Mercenary Boss as well as
a ruthlessness he simply cannot shake when in the heat of combat
This is not to say he is some gruff stereotypical mercenary man, he is
perfectly sociable and friendly to most: off the table if the need requires
it of course, he falls into the role of a rough soldier as much as he does
the enjoyable drunkard.
Biography:
Drass‘s story begins on the discount Coruscant they call Axxila, in that cityscape Drass was born into the deeper recesses, not too unlike the Underworld of Coruscant in that regard, it was a rough place that helped shape the young boy into the hardened fighter he became but more importantly it taught him the value of credits in making the Galaxy go round’.
It also introduced him to his career choice that would take up much of his life: Mercenary work
Drass was a big person, he’s always been big and intimidating so he put it to use, it wasn’t hard to be an enforcer for some sleazy rat if the money with right. That greed drove him for so long, consumed him even, if the money was right it got done. That’s a popular mindset to some people, and greed is something that people can get behind. Azure Claw was born from the latter, gather up some aggressive and violent guys and gals with Drass as the boss and fighting the fights people are too cowardly to, or to make a point, or whatever else they hired them to do.
It was rinse and repeat, fight the battles, get the scars, get paid. Rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat, he didn’t give it much thought: he got paid, he got his medical support, and he enjoyed fine booze and whatever else he wanted. It was almost decadent, in it’s own violent way.
Things changed at Agamar though, an awareness appeared within him as the Claw marched on, it’s tanks moving to shred and destroy. Destroy what exactly? Simple farmers, a whole village was going to burn for crossing their employer. And he did it, he marched along and killed without a second look, the tanks tore and destroyed without mercy. But at his core Drass had been changed.
Remorse for his actions burned within him, and the Mercenary went into a downward spiral for some time. But Drass was anything but ill-informed of the happenings in the Galaxy, one of those happened to be the formation of the New Republic. The Republic were the good guys, right? Maybe he should try being a good guy for once. And off he went, to go and fish himself into their recruitment nonsense, but hey it was nonsense for a good cause.
Given prior experience fighting with the Azure Claw, though trying his best to cover up some of their worst dealings for a fear of being denied (new life, no need to dwell on the past. Right?) he was given the rank of Sergeant and a good helping of soldiers under his command, wasting no time Drass quickly established himself as brunt and efficient on the field, it’s not quite so easy to shake off everything from the way they were.
