Background and Biography
Early Years
At the time of his birth, it seemed like Drax Thorin would grow to be an average denizen of the galaxy. His parents were middle class workers in a nice part of Coruscant; his father a retired Republic trooper, his mother a local merchant. They decided to not have any more children after him, and his mother quit her job to raise him from home.
Adolescence
As he began schooling, it was obvious Drax had a knack for making things. He would take things apart, then put them back together in new ways. He doodled plans for strange contraptions on his schoolwork, and frequently recruited his peers in raiding places for supplies for his latest endeavor.
It wasn't unusual for this behavior to get him in trouble with his teachers, but his parents felt his knack for invention outweighed a few detentions, and he never received punishment at home for it.
Teenage Years
As a teenager, Drax's father taught him how to use a blaster. Drax took to it well, and constantly fiddled with blaster parts, trying to find ways to improve them. His father couldn't be prouder; until he passed away from a heart attack when Drax was fifteen.
Distraught, Drax began taking up deathsticks, smoking nearly thirty a day to deal with his despair for his father's death. He continued to come up with strange inventions, and planned to get an Engineering degree at the University of Coruscant.
Adulthood
In order to enter university, Drax had to borrow a lot of money from some of the less legal persons of Coruscant. Unfortunately, Drax was failed out of the University soon after he borrowed the money, and was not refunded.
Alone and in debt, Drax attempted to get investors interested in his inventions; he garnered interest from more dangerous people, who gave him a lot of money to make these things.
Attempt after attempt followed, each ending in failure and more crushing debt. As years passed, Drax began to become more and more desperate, and he was struck with an illness.
He visited the doctor, and got the news: Drax Thorin had lung cancer, and didn't have long to live.
Lost, Drax fell ever deeper into his abyss, drinking and sleeping around the rest of his late twenties.
When he hit his thirties, his debt collectors finally delivered an ultimatum: have the credits by the end of the year, or be spaced.
With nowhere else to go, Drax made a decision: he used the last of his money to procure a firearm and a black suit, and took up bounty hunting and criminal activity with the new Black Tie Syndicate.
Because why the hell not?
Personality and Traits
Spending more than a decade in crushing debt can change a person, and it has certainly changed Drax. He isn't quick to trust, and tends to spend little time with others outside of professional relations. Dying has given him a grim sense of humor, and has people call him 'The Dead Man' as his own personal joke.
