PRODUCTION INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Dual Propulsion Plant: The Drexl Flightpack uses both jet propulsion and repulsorlifts to provide thrust and lift to the user. While each component can be activated and used separately (with singular performance of each device being equivalent to low grade versions of each), they are designed to used simultaneously in the Drexl Flightpack. This combination provides the user with the speed of the jetpack and the stability and longevity of a repulsor pack, making it relatively user friendly. A ball-joined jet vector thrust nozzle is located the top outer edges of the pack, with each nozzle containing sound baffling and auditory absorbers similar to the Hushabout Pack, making the Drexl Flightpack relatively quiet. Quieter still is the pack’s repulsorlift coil, which is primarily used to rapidly slow descent (Especially from the upper atmosphere) or to provide altitude stability. Because the repulsorlift is relatively slow, it is a poor means of ascent, producing upwards thrust at the pace of leisurely walking man.
  • Glider: The Drexl Flightpack features retractable desh-terenthium wings, which can allow the user a limited ability to glide. Because these wings are so short and stubby, this glide is more of a controlled descent mechanism rather than the ability to loiter around in an airspace. Still, this allows users the ability to travel while airborne without having to use up fuel from either the twin jets or power from the repulsorlift coil.
  • Auto-Stabilizing: The Drexl Flightpack uses a built-in gyroscope and thrust vector nozzles to automatically keep the user upright or in a horizontal position while in flight based on the user’s preference. This allows the user to concentrate on performing other tasks, such as combat functions or more gross piloting tasks such as long distance navigation or avoiding large obstacles.
  • Lateral Boost: Drexl comes with a groundside, lateral boost feature: The repulsorlift provides enough lift to just keep the user off the ground, while the jet engine nozzles point directly behind the users, providing the user with exceptional forward thrust. This allows users to quickly cover distances on the ground in relatively straight lines much as if they were wearing repulsorskates.
  • HUD-based controls: The Drexl Flightpack is designed to be controlled exclusively through a HUD system and does not have any external controls, unlike some older jetpacks in order to cut down on some of its weight and bulk. While it is designed to be incorporated into new armor designs using the Loth-Wolf HUD system, it largely is backwards compatible with other HUD systems and can even be supplied with a minimalistic flight helmet using open-source HUD software for those who do not wish to wear a full set of armor.
STRENGTHS
  • Quiet: The Drexl Flightpack is a relatively quiet device compared to many jetpacks. Its loudest means of propulsions, the jets, make about as much noise as common residential landspeeder traffic while its glider and repulsorlift modes are almost silent.
  • High Performance: The Drexl Flightpack is a high performance device, quickly moving people at speeds comparable to swoop bikes and other high performance atmospheric craft. The Drexl Flightpack also has enough fuel and power to operate for several hours at a time, which is significantly more than many smaller, lighter packs.
WEAKNESSES
  • Bulky: The Drexl Flightpack is a fairly bulky device and noticeably enlarges the size of most users to the point where they might have difficulty in navigating through narrow spaces and probably will lose some of their natural grace and agility.
  • Potential Fireball: Like many other jetpacks, Drexl Flightpack relies on combustible fuel. While this combustible nature provides the Drexl Flightpack with excellent thrust, it is a significantly liability in a combat zone. If hit by a high enough energy weapon or incendiary weapon, it could create a large explosion or engulf the user in flaming paralene.
DESCRIPTION
The Drexl Flightpack is Lucerne Personal Defense's answer to the long-lasting Hush-About jetpack, a favorite of many military and intelligence organizations due to its relatively quiet nature. Like that jetpack, the Drexl utilizes similar sound muffling technology in order to drastically cut down its sound signature, though the pack can still be heard by a normal organic's ear at close distances. Unlike its conceptual predecessor though, Drexl isn't simply another jetpack, but rather a combination of jetpack, repulsorpack, and wingsuit all stuffed into a single, backpack-sized system. This makes the Drexl more bulky than many of its competitors, but it offers some unique advantages as well, just as the ability to execute lateral boosts on the ground or noiselessly descend onto targets with a minimum of energy.

The inclusion of these abilities thus extends the utility of the device by making it more functional in habitats where traditional jetpacks are less useful: a user with a Drexl can descend from low orbit via glider and repulsorlift even if the atmosphere isn't thick enough to support the combustion cycles of jet engines. Conversely, a lateral boost is something that can be useful on the ground level, even in areas where there isn't a lot of room for vertical maneuvers, whether it be the inside of a building, a sewer, or a thick forest.

Lucerne Personal Defense hoped that expanding the possibilities of a traditional jetpack's use along with making it a user friendly device from its experience with the
Mailoc Photonic Rocket Pack would entice more buyers, especially from traditional jetpack markets that the Mailoc had failed to penetrate due its unconventionality. To that end, the Drexl does appear to have gained more traction with traditional jetpack buyers involved in the military and law enforcement, in large part due its relatively quiet nature. It seems likely that the Drexl will be adopted by the 1st Directorate Jump Trooper Regiment in the near future, along with a handful of other government-aligned groups. Lucerne Personal Defense expects to see other small but steady sales from the independent operators market, meaning that it'll likely remain in production for some time to come.
