- Can extend a blade to provide close-range combat ability to the user.
- Blades are equipped with a mono-molecular edge, lined with a plasma filament.
- Allows a close-range weapon to be implanted into the user’s arms, folded out of sight.
- Due to their extremely sharp edges, and the plasma filament, the Durandal's blade is able to slice through most common materials and basic armours.
- While deployed the Durandal Implant forces the user’s hand down preventing them from using their hands while the blade is deployed.
- The blade can be detected by sensors.
- The fixed position of the blade limits its use with standard bladed combat techniques
“When you need it, you never have a knife around.”
The tagline to the launch of Locke and Key’s newest combat cybernetic implant.
When first designing his cybernetics John had wrestled with the concern that he might eventually be dragged into a fight, and while he could hold his own at long range, the galaxy had this nasty habit of getting into close range. Those pesky force users and their laser swords. While most military outfits did provide their troops with a knife, meaning John was sure he could find one if he needed, he was less than enthralled about the idea of fighting against a sword user with one.
The problem was that a sword, the preferred weapon to deal with those threats, was just too bulky to easily carry around. Only...he had two perfectly good cybernetic arms going to waste.
So, John decided to do something about that.
He installed swords in both of his arms in case they were needed. Luckily he was never called on to use the blades in combat, but the principle was sound, and if it worked for him, surely there were others who would benefit from it.
