Democracy Dies in Darkness

Like the rise and fall of the sun, good things must come to an end. As illustrious as his career may or may not have been, Kuril had prove to be a distinguished figure in his own community, and only that community. Though the public face of the Security Bureau, he'd maintained as low a profile as he could. Glory nor recognition was his aim. He came from the rank and file, and they were always his first priority. Too often in his years long climb did he witness the failure of the bureaucracy to take care of those that enabled their success. He wasn't that type of leader. He entrusted those under him to do their job and do it well. He recognized those agents accordingly. He also entrusted the leaders under him to ensure the Bureau was run at maximum efficiency. Those that failed to do so and reached the notice of the deputy director did not do well afterwards.

Through the myriad of thoughts in his head, one thing was clear. Skipping the lines at the security checkpoints, he walked through the metal detectors all had to pass through to gain admittance to the seat of the First Order's government. The metal detector let out a loud tone, and without flinching, Kuril proceeded. A stormtrooper began to pursue to capture before he ventured too far before being stopped by the sergeant of the guard, pointing out his badge, carrying the rare combination of security bureau and cabinet-level credentials. In his hand, Kuril carried a lone envelope, no doubt carrying unfolded documents. The journey to the upper levels of the ministry offices seemed to take forever. The slow elevator did nothing to remedy that. Reaching the top though, he beelined to the relevant offices - those of the Ministry of Security.

Entering, he continued his determined path past the secretary who rose slightly from her seat, mouth agape, before realizing she was powerless to do anything.

"Minister Calgar.", he greeted somewhat curtly. He didn't intend to be rude, but didn't care if he came across as so. What he sounded like though, was like someone on his way out. He approached the desk, gently placing the document envelope at the center. "You'll find my resignation inside."

Despite being in a job of knowing things, he knew little of the security minister. Like Kuril, he'd been of the rank and file prior. Beyond that, he knew little. He was an enigma, and Kuril didn't know how he'd react. He didn't know if a hit would be placed on him, in a precautious effort to protect state secrets. He didn't know if he'd receive a generous pension and that'd be the end of it. It was all a part of the work they did and oversaw. Nonetheless, Kuril was determined to see this path through.
