Each Day's a Gift and Not a Given Right

Coryth groaned softly, her eyes scanning the room as she was moved from the transport and into a medical bay. Movement did her little good and the redhead knew it. It fact, it was down right agony. You see dear readers, she had tried. For some things just had to be tested and this was no different. The redhead needed to know her limits, and she quickly learned just how hindered she was but the multiple injuries. From the dislocated shoulder, to the broken leg, shattered ribs, smoke inhalation, head injury and shrapnel wounds upon her back, the tiny Jedi Master had been through hell and back already. The redhead simply needed rest and like it or not it would be forced upon her yet.

For a moment her mind wandered, wondering if they would be taking her back to Kaeshana for healing. Nothing mattered really in the long of it, as long as no one tried to stuff her into bacta tank all would be well.

That collar, with a bell .... It really wasn't a bad idea. Especially given Coryth's abilities to render herself invisible to all. That and she was a notoriously terrible patient. Healers and doctors always made the worst patients ever, that was certain. And Coryth was no different. She always believed herself to be right, and know better. At least this had nothing to do with a Sith Master returned from the dead to plague me again.... Nor Sith poison, so it could be worse. Yeah, it could be. You could be dead. Point. Also, this had everything to do with the fact that you can't pilot a starship to save your life. Point two, to the voice in my head. Ah ... now we seem to be getting somewhere. Don't make me come in there.... Oh come on, that would be soooo amusing. Go away! Yes, Mistress!

Coryth knew too well, too easily how she could have died on Sullust. It was the unfortunate reality of crashing into the surface of the planet, and perhaps if she'd not bounced as many times as she did upon impact, she'd likely not be breathing at all. Her injuries despite being rather severe, could have been so much worse. The redhead could in fact be dead. However, for a change the Universe worked in her favor, or perhaps it was those last minute prayers to deities unknown. Luck was never about getting what you want. Luck was all about surviving the things you don't want. And this most assuredly counted for Master Coryth Elaris.

For the record, Coryth looked completely adorable wearing a collar with a bell. Any Temple of Ardarvia would love to have her!

Suffice to say the short stack of fire was in a horrid shape. Her shoulders were dislocated, so they would need to be set. A leg was broken below the knee and twisted to where her foot faced backwards, necessitating setting and surgery. Quite a few ribs were broken and given the damage her lungs had sustained during the crash, she would need breathing treattment. After all, the volumes of smoke inhalation amounted to burnt lung tissue inside. She had also sustained several cuts from shards of shrapnel, some of which had embedded themselves inside her. Nothing life-threatening, but it would need to be removed. Right now she had just been given the most necessary treatment by applying bacta and patches, cleaning and disinfecting wounds. Likewise, she was on IV fluids with pain medications and some mild sedatives, which were currently dripping into her system. A nurse would check these regularly and make sure that she did not do something like disconnect the IV and sneak out. As much as everyone loved the little redhead, they could not deny the fact that she was just a bit crazy sometimes. In a very loveable way, of course!

However, before the friendly healer showed up, it seemed Kaida had popped by for a chat. Or simply to make sure that Coryth had not run away since the Angelii was not really the talkative type. For her part Kaida did not look like she was in a good shape, though at least unlike Coryth she had been spared a crash onto the surface of Sullust. Nonetheless she was walking with a rather strong, pronounced limp since one of her legs had taken a rather nasty beating. A shoulder had been dislocated from a Klaxxi ramming right into it. Breathing was more difficult with broken ribs and it was clear that the fingers of her left hand were a mess, since bones had been smashed.

"You better not be intending to run off. We put lots of time and effort into extracting you," she said bluntly. Yeah, that was Kaida's idea of a greeting. Tact, who the feth needed that sort of crap anyway? "Priestess Eileithya will be here in a moment to help with your wounds."

"Running off, no. Limping, well that isn't out of the realm of possibility. It just might hurt a feth of a lot." The redhead admitted as she shifted with a heavy wince to turn to see who her visitor was. "I see I'm not the only one who ended up hurt in that mess. It's good to see you Kaida." Coryth managed, speaking barely above a whisper. Her lungs and throat certainly didn't feel like speaking any louder than that. With a nudge of the force, she adjusted the breathing mask across her nose into a more comfortable position. "Ah, good .... good. I think we both could use her aid this time." She managed, as she laid her head back down against the pillows, trying to get comfortable once more.

"Truthfully, I think ..." She took in a deep breath or at least tried to before she ended up in a coughing fit as her lungs resisted. "I think I'm a little too injured for that, this time." Coryth finally admitting she might be too hurt to get up and walk on her own, well it certainly seemed like miracles were happening this day. "And maybe a tiny bit too sedated to safely make it out." The redhead said as her eyes drifted to the IV hanging above her, both medications dripping in she recognized immediately. "You guys really don't want me leaving now do you?"

A couple more pained coughs came before Coryth could manage to speak again."How many died extracting me?" That was a question that Coryth desperately wanted to know the answer to. She may have been an extremely talented healer, but she didn't ever feel it was right to risk lives on her behalf. It was very likely that she'd end up mourning every last Eldorai who had died there on the surface trying to save her. And even more likely that she'd spend time with each and every person injured as well.

"You mean a lot to many people. And aside from Sergeant Solveig, you're the highest-ranking Firemane employee left. Something happening to you would be terrible for morale," Kaida responded. Perhaps not the most encouraging answer, but she was not good at pep talks. Like it or not, Coryth had responsibilities now! There were people depending on her outside of the hospital room!

She was quiet for a moment before she answered Coryth's question. She would have to...write letters to the families of the dead. It made her very uncomfortable, but then she finally spoke up again. "We went with a platoon-sized Angelii contingent. Eight dead, just as many injured, two of them in critical condition." That was the answer, just the facts. Undoubtedly Coryth would beat herself up about it, but Kaida was the brutally honest sort. "We were fortunate that the Klaxxi apparently weren't ready for a longer-term engagement and lacked numbers once reinforcements arrived."

Yes, boys and girls, that had been an easy battle. One could only wonder how things would go when the Klaxxi were out for more than a quick meal. Forget about Reavers, how can a bunch of cannibals who get exterminated every second week or so be threatening? The Angelii had already due to having their numbers strongly diminished by the mass disappearances, so every battle sister was precious. Thus the loss of every one of them hit hard.

Coryth's brow furrowed for a moment, as she thought through Kaida's words. It never occurred to her that she meant much of anything to anyone aside from maybe Siobhan and Tegaea. Beyond that she had little idea that anyone at all knew of her or cared that her heart was still beating. Well, there was Sarge but she wasn't sure he counted for much these days. "I ... I hadn't considered that." Coryth said, the sorrow oh, so clear in her voice as it threatened to crack.

A slow nod came as Coryth absorbed the cold hard numbers. She asked, and truthfully wanted to know. But she hadn't quite expected the answer to hit her as hard. "Eight." For a moment, or two the redhead managed to keep it together but that could not last given that it cut deeper than she had expected. "I am so sorry, Kaida." Coryth sniffled as tears threatened to spill over. "It's my fault. I shouldn't have gone. They wouldn't be gone, if I'd just stayed put." But duty had called her, and she knew that. Someone had to be first, and she was bound between two nations to manage two very different jobs.

"I want to see them," She finally spoke as she reached a little helplessly to try and wipe away the start of the tears. She soon gave up as the pain was too much to lift either of her arms any higher than her chest. "The injured, the dead. I owe them that much, at the very least I owe them that." Not that it would really make Coryth feel better in the least, people had died for her. All to bring her home and for the life of her she could not seem to wrap her brain around the why. Why anyone would put their lives on the line for her, seemed far beyond her at this moment in time. It wasn't a position she was used to, not in the least.

This was the point where this one's characters diverged. If Siobhan had been here, she would have tried to comfort Coryth, both with words and gestures of physical affection. It was a stark contrast, to those who knew her well the Butcher was quite loving and caring. Then again, as of late she had acquired a rather motherly personality. Kaida, by contrast, was probably a far more moral person than Siobhan, but far harder to get along with because she rarely showed emotion and saw no point in what she considered coddling.

So rather than give Coryth a hug, she simply nodded. "No, they wouldn't have. But what's done is done. They're soldiers, they knew the risk the moment they put on the armour. Guilt doesn't bring them back. You want to make their deaths mean something, honour them. And be less rash," she said bluntly. "You can visit them when you're up for it."

"I didn't ask them to, though. I didn't ask for it." Undoubtedly she was going to feel that guilt for a while. Eight lives that would weigh on her conscience for some time still. Maybe more if those critically injured passed as well. At the time, she wasn't thinking, just doing. Following her heart, and her gut and it led her right into danger. Never for a second did she count on someone coming after her. So much of her used to doing things alone, it was when things like this happened they threatened to crush her heart and soul.

"Of the two critically injured, will they last the night? Because if not, I need to see them now." Coryth said as she closed her eyes tightly and tried to ignore how deeply these events had cut her. Some things were more important than the risk to herself, to her body right then and there. And saying goodbye to those who had risked everything to see her home safely, was certainly one of those things to Coryth.

The words Kaida had spoken, were not something she wanted to hear, but something she needed to hear. As long as she was important to someone, to Firemane, to Siobhan to others ... Someone was always going to risk their life to get her back. Responsibility, it wasn't something she'd ever really wanted but here it was in her lap. And maybe, just maybe Coryth had been running away from responsibility for a very long time. Avoiding it, knowing that if she cared more, took on more, that either it would make her or ... her worst fear was that it would destroy her.

"So the next time you charge in some place to help and almost get killed, no one should go help you and you should be left to die. Noted. Or you could just have less of a messiah complex. It would be better for everyone involved," Kaida said bluntly, voice turning quite cold and frigid.

"They'll make it," she said simply. It was in this moment that Eileithya Saedaris, everyone's favourite redheaded Eldorai Priestess, entered the room. Somehow she seemed to give the impression she knew the conversation was turning...not so pleasant, but her aura seemed as warm as ever.

"I see you two are getting to know each other well. If you have disagreements, please try to resolve them peacably. You're both banged up enough. Hello, Coryth, that collar looks lovely on you. Any Ardarvian Priestess would love to keep you. Don't mind Seraph Taldir, she is quite sweet when you know her better...as long as she's on top." Yes, that was her way of greeting. Eileithya was a devout woman of the faith, but she was also an unrepentant troll anda bit oversexed. Whilst Kaida looked annoyed the Priestess gave her a smile. "I guess two's a pattern, I knew you liked the girls busty and domineering, Coryth." No, this writer is not done lampshading the fact that ever since she switched her playby, Kaida's rack got bigger.

Kaida cursed the fact that she could not punch her and turned away. "I'll leave you two to it," and with that she moved to head out, though she had the feeling that Eileithya would undoubtedly be oggling her butt. Bloody annoying Priestess.

"You better be in your room in bed when I come looking for you, Kaida. No wandering off without my permission. Unless you want me to tie you up!"

Coryth sighed, but winced heavily for the effort, "I ... It's ... I don't know how to do this. I don't know, I'm used to working alone without someone to save me. The idea that anyone would risk their own life for mine ... Is more than I know how to handle. The reality that people will, that good people have to die frankly hurts. I don't like the idea, and maybe it was a foolish notion that I could escape it forever."

A nod was all she could manage as Kaida spoke of their condition, "Thank you." Grateful that she could perhaps rest a little while and then go see them. They'd risked everything for her, and she felt a duty to at least check on them all.

Then in walked the redheaded priestess. Coryth blushed as she suddenly noticed the collar upon her neck. No, she couldn't quite see it, but she heard the bell as she shifted her head. "Oh... when did that happen?" Coryth wondered as the last few hours had been a bit of a blur on her part. Then further words from Eileithya had the little Jedi turning as red as her hair. "I .. uh.. um.... Lil bit, yes." She squeaked out, horribly embarrassed at the admission. It was the first time she'd ever admitted aloud that she had a type at all. It was then that she fell into another coughing fit, as her lungs greatly protested her talking, and crying as she had been for a little while now.

Eileithya just smiled, clearly enjoying every moment of embarrassing Coryth. "Hey, hey, sweetie. I'm not judging. Kaeshana is very tolerant of alternate life styles as long as they're safe and consensual. Well, I guess alternate life styles are more the norm around her. Hallowed be the Goddess, for she is love." Despite her trolling Eileithya was a fervent believer in the Eldorai Goddesses, though she had a lot more of a sense of humour about it than most clerics.

But then she turned serious as poor Coryth fell into a coughing fit and called upon her Sciia. The Force was...more difficult to use and she felt a strong strain upon her as she tried to use it, but nonetheless its energies flowed through her and she directed them to Coryth, harnessing them in order to soothe her body, easing the pain and calmning her pained lungs. "There, there, my poor girl. I'd lecture you about being silly and rash, but the Angelii with the tight arse has already done that well enough, so I'll skip the brutal, but well-intentioned lecture,"

Coryth desperately wanted to hide her face, and not have to suffer through the embarrassment any longer. But alas it hurt her too badly to actually lift her hands to do so. "I just ... I ..." The redhead only flushed brighter as the Priestess kept speaking, "Don't talk ... about my ... preferences. Still don't ... know who put the collar on... me ... or when." Was it all that much of a blur? Cause I'm starting to think so.

The small redhead woman just gave in and let the coughing happen. There was little she could do to prevent it. Feeling the force enter her from the Priestess brought a good measure of comfort to the Jedi Master. Panting desperately, her eyes locked with Eileithya, and she managed a slow nod as her lungs finally started to relax a little and let her breathe easier.

"I'd .... appreciate it." Coryth finally managed to whisper extremely softly for fear she might start coughing again. She let the Eldorai priestess continue her work as she relaxed into the soothing healing powers of the woman's talents. "Hurts, a lot." Speaking once more as she very carefully shifted in the bed, completely onto her back. Even if the shrapnel wounds hurt, it still hurt a lot less than resting on her side did. It wasn't very often that Coryth ever openly admitted she was in pain. She'd always done her best to hide it. But then again, she might have realized without a good grasp on the force that her powers wouldn't cover everything up. That and she was a terrible liar.

"Beautiful Coryth, you're too brave your own good," Eileithya spoke softly, gently stroking the undamaged part of Coryth's cheek with her hand before giving her a kiss. "Healing will you take a while. You won't be charging off into adventures any time soon and I'm afraid my ability to call upon the Goddess' magic is not what it used to be, but I should be able to heal the most of it. It will be easier if I put you into a trance while I treat you, if you let me."

The Priestess gently patted Coryth's hand. In her opinion the trance would be the best, but she would not make Coryth slip into it without permission. It would not work well anyway if the short stack of fire did not go along with it willingly. "I'll make sure you have sweet dreams," she added with a slightly mischievous smile. Siobhan, lots of leather, mistress bed.

Coryth managed the tiniest hints of a smile, "I only aim to help those who need it most." Spoken before she coughed a few more times. A nod followed, "I understand," For a change the redhead was coming around to the idea that she just might be a little too hurt to get out of bed and do things upon her own.

A sigh came at the mention of a trance, truth be told she didn't like others putting her into them and preferred to do it herself. "A trance is probably for the best, and while I'd rather do it myself ... I fear I don't have the strength for that right now." More of the redhead admitting to weakness that she did very much hate. Feeling weak, helpless was the worst feeling in the world to her. "So, please, go ahead. As long as it eases the pain, I can handle that... At least I think I can."

"Sweet dreams?" The Jedi had to ask, "Does that mean I won't have visions and just be able to enjoy a dream for a change? Just a dream for what it is, the mind at play while the body rests?" Coryth's dreams were rarely ever just dreams and she did so look forward to the moments where she could just sleep and her mind was at ease.

[member="Coryth Elaris"]

"I promise there won't be any visions, dear. Just sweet dreams. Well, you may wake up a little moist if you catch my drift," Eileithya said sweetly, trolling because, well, she was a troll. "Relax and rest, dear. Don't think of the troubles of the Galaxy, don't give yourself over to guilt...just...rest." Her voice was soft, melodious even and with every word she spoke she exerted herself more in her Sciia. There was a strong strain upon her as she called on her powers, but gradually Coryth would feel herself growing more tired and more willing to enter into the dreamlands. A place where she would not have to worry, feel pain or guilt about what she believed to be her failings.

When Coryth finally gave herself to sleep, the short stack of fire would suddenly find herself somewhere else entirely, namely in a very luxurious bedroom. She would find that she was whole again and that the pain had vanished. Likewise she would also find that she was not alone, for a wild Siobhan Kerrigan was lazily lying upon the mistress bed, eating grapes which a pretty blue Twi'lek servant girl fed her. Her beautiful dark brown curls fell down past her shoulders, her lips were a bright red and she was wearing a rather tight and very flattering leather corset with a leather mini skirt and stockings.

"Coryth, darling, don't you think you have certain...duties to attend to? You've kept your Lady waiting. I am most cross with you, pet." Siobhan purred like a cat as she lasciviously licked a berry before swallowing it. A servant girl removed the Lady's knee-high black leather boots, whereupon Siobhan pointed down towards her bare feet, which were obviously in need of worship. It went without saying that her toenails were perfect!

Coryth took in a small breath, trying not to hurt her ribs further. "Then I can live with that." A small hint of a smile as her lips turned upwards ever so slightly as the redhead's suggestion of where her dreams might go. "I ... will try not to..." Spoken as she already could feel the Priestess' pull upon the force.

It took her a moment, to actually let go and allow Eileithya to place her into the trance. It never had been an easy thing for her to allow others to have control. Further and further she could feel herself slipping away, being pulled deeper into the force within it's infinite power. Her eyes slowly drifted closed, though she did still try to keep them open for as long as she could. Finally with one last glance to the Priestess, her eyes fell closed and the tiny woman's chest rose and fell in a slow and steady rhythm, as if nothing at all pained her.

Finding herself in the bedroom, with Siobhan had been a most welcome surprise. Her breath almost instantly stolen away from her as she looked Sio over. "My apologies, Mistress. I did not mean to leave you waiting. Perhaps I may make it up to you, M'lady?" Spoken as the little redhead stepped forward, and knelt down at the brunettes feet. With gentle loving hands, Coryth began to massage Siobhan's feet, planting an occasional kiss upon her leg. Such a blissful start to the dream. No doubt Coryth would be completely unaware of anything happening to her body outside of the dreams in which she was currently already loving.

[member="Coryth Elaris"]

'Siobhan' smiled brightly. Her Coryth was such a lovely, beautiful angel. Not to mention the fact that she had become a great lover. "I should punish you severely...but I am a kind Mistress. So go ahead, prove to me that you are worthy. Show that you love me as your Lady and Goddess!" she commanded, a strong measure of haughtiness in her tone. That of a woman who was used to getting what - or who - she wanted, but then she revelled in conquest both on and off the battlefield. A soft sigh of pleasure soon escaping her throat as Coryth massaged her feet and placed the occasional kiss upon her leg. It was truly a heavenly state of bliss and Siobhan was clearly enjoying every moment of it. Arching into the soft touches she pushed her foot towards Coryth's mouth, evidently expecting it to be kissed. Her crimson-painted toenails glowed as rays of light fell upon them through the window.

Needless to say...at this very moment a black curtain descended from seemingly out of nowhere and obscured whatever might be happening because we must think of the kiddies. By contrast, if our two lovely ladies were comitting mass homicide, that would be perfectly family-friendly, but heaven forbid if they engage in perhaps rather orthodox, but still loving and consensual sexual acts.

In the real world, meanwhile, Priestess Eileithya smiled to herself, having evidently really exerted herself to make sure that the dreamland Coryth woke up in was a most pleasurable one. Suffice to say the experience would be both vivid and feel very real for the little redhead! However, unlike the short stack of fire, it would not be a time of rest for the healer and priestess of Ashira. So instead she set to work, once she was certain that Coryth was deep in trance, she set to work. An oversexed troll Eileithya might be, but she took her calling as a healer to those in need very seriously. Her powers, though still potent were still very wonky, so she would only use them where absolutely needed. First she would deal with the manifodl internal injuries that undoubtedly were there.

"Dream happy dreams, child. May the Goddess watch over you and light your path. May she bless your labours, may she shield you from those who would wish you ill and abuse your kindness," Eileithya said solemnly began. The short stack of fire was so reckless and, though it pained her, the Priestess had the feeling that unless someone stopped her, one day it would get her killed if she ended up finding herself in one too many situations where she was over her head. So much like Kerrigan, in a way, though they were polar opposites on the moral spectrum. So much like a younger Eileithya, as a matter of fact. The Priestess suppressed a sigh as she went about her work after having spoken her prayer to the Goddess.

Her work could be described as a combination of traditional medicine imbued with the Goddess' magic to speed healing, ease pain and make the worst injuries easier to deal with. To an extent she could exert herself to mend shattered bones and breathe life into Coryth's badly mauled leg, shrinking her focus until it was down to the cellular level. It took a great deal of exertion for her to achieve this as she focused solely upon the body of the woman before her, blissfully unaware of her own state. Doctors and nurses would join the Priestess and eventually surgery would be carried out to fix Coryth up. If this had taken place before the great cataclysm, Eileithya might have been able to bring Coryth back to her own state relying solely upon her powers, but it was not so. However, this did not matter. The Goddess had a plan. An ineffable one and she was but a handmaiden to her, doing her duty. And so as the hours passed the healers pooled their efforts to mend Coryth, though hours would pass.

As for Kaida, she had returned to her room, though she was not particularly happy about being confinded to it! Eventually a nurse would come and bring her breakfast. Since the Cryomancer was the serious type, there would unfortunately not be any...nurse-patient games in bed. Who knew, maybe [member="Tempest"] would teleport in!

[member="Valiens Nantaris"]

"Yes, m'lady." Spoken oh so sweetly as the black curtain descended.

The experiences on the otherside of that black curtain were so wonderful and blissful for the little redhead. It was just the type of relaxation she needed so desperately after her injuries. Granted they had been her own fault, foolishly rushing in when she should have waited. That and Coryth had no business flying in a ship without an experienced pilot.

Hours and hours would pass with Coryth completely blissfully unaware of the pains her body had been through. Finally most groggily the tiny redhead started to stir, a flutter at first of the eyes before she managed to open them. Her mind told her not to move, to not push it, not when her body still felt so weak, sore and tired. Her vision slowly cleared as she dared to turn and glance around now. At least her leg, felt a whole lot better. The surgery had clearly done it's part and her internal injuries for the most part were of no concern any longer.

"Best dream ... I've ever had." She whispered, thinking back to the vivid imagery that had only left her a few seconds ago. Such a shame to have to wake into a reality that was much harsher. Until today, waking had always been so pleasant compared to her visions of doom and gloom. It was a most strange thing for her to actually want to turn back over and return to dreaming and forget all about the world. "If only I could always have dreams like that.... I'd be such the happy woman."

"Sweet dreams, yes? I tend to prefer the real thing. Of course...some dreams fee very real," Eileithya joked lamely, trying to troll, for she knew very well what visions of doom and gloom tended to torment Coryth. So she was glad that for a change the short stack of fire had dreamt of pleasant things.

The Priestess had finished her work on her fellow redhead and been dozing on the chair next to her bed, evidently tired herself, before waking up. "You're a beautiful soul, Coryth. You deserve what happiness you can get," she said softly before sighing and passing over a glass of water to Coryth. "You could have died today. You know that. Siobhan...cares about you very deeply. She would've been devastated if she returned, and you were in a bodybag."

"The best," Coryth spoke quietly, "Haven't ever had a dream like that. Not since ... not ever actually. Thank you." Her gratitude quite clear as she looked over to the redheaded priestess.

Reaching over carefully, slowly Coryth took the glass of water from her, and took a small sip. The words, it took a while for their weight to actually sink in. The tiny woman couldn't just say I know. She knew too well her life could have ended. But saying I know, certainly didn't make it better. "Perhaps it was foolish of me." Whispered softly, meekly. "I know she cares, I know. And there is some irony in me being the one laying in the bed on the brink of death when I yelled at her for the very same thing not so long ago."

Sighing she only shook her head, "It wasn't a mistake to go, but the way I went about it, perhaps that was the mistake." No, I know it was. "She'd kill me herself... bring me back to life, just to kill me for dying on her."

"Oh, I'm sure she'd spank you royally before that, dear. Whether you believe it or not, you mean the world to her. Next time you charge into a situation, do make sure there's someone who can actually pilot a ship. Even if it's an astromech droid. I am not keen on machines, artificial life as they are, but it would be useful," Eileithya said, gently stroking Coryth's cheek.

"You have a great gift, Coryth. One that you use to aid those in need, as the Goddess would will it. But it's little use if you get yourself killed."
