Gilad Pallaeon Naval Academy - 0530 Local Time - Saberhing SystemSoon to be Lieutenant Thalia Cruz walked down the hall of the dormitory sector sleepily. Today was the day, well she said that every day, but today truly was THE day. Shocktroopers at Derik'hur had the Reach to complete at Fort Derik'hur, the Starfighter Corps had their Grand Slingshot, and the Troopers...Well she wasn't sure they actually had any grand ritualistic final exam. For the Navy though both Navy pilots and Officers had to complete...The Saber. Or Combat Tour Exam 12 if you went by what the grade sheets said...Which was, in her opinion a dreadfully boring name.
With her uniform barely acceptable by Academy Standards and a sleep deprived looking scowl plastered to her slightly tanned face she gave a lazy salute at the door to the cafeteria, eyes pinched closed, and hovered in with a smile as the smell of recently brewed caf danced across her nostrils. Already she felt more alive. For it being so early in the morning, the cafeteria was surprisingly busy, mostly with seniors of the officer program. Before she realized it she had settled by the caf machine, poured herself a mug, and finished her first cup. Slightly more awake than she was a minute ago she took a look up at the large transparisteel viewports that hung above the cafeteria as a pair of X-wings flew silently over head. She imagined the roar of their engines through the filtered lense of an aural sensor and shivered with anticipation.
Soon she and her crewmates would be aboard a warship sim that would emulate a full three theater battle. Navy pilots would be in their flight sims, bridge crew would be there, and Shocktrooper officers would have their choice of commanding from the ground in a simulated forward operating base, or at the bridge. If they all passed that...They'd be headed to the real challenge. The Saber would see them off on a short campaign in a nearby system. She'd heard rumors that the Corellians used captured pirate ships to simulate a battle where the students were out numbered three to one. She'd also heard that they used prisoners and live fire to test the mettle of fresh officers. That last one seemed more like something Lord Admiral Bao would do. She shuddered at the thought.
Either way, her excited brown eyes scanned the room to find any of her crewmates.
"Uhm...Ma'am?" Thalia looked down at her cup to realize her second cup had filled and now it was spilling over the mug, creating a pool of the hot, brown liquid at her feet. She cursed under her breath and quickly fled the scene of the crime.
