Private Echoes of Yesterday

Nightmares.

The nightmares started after he turned thirteen, but they hadn't been so intense back then. Iskendyr sat in a pair of black sweatpants, and a red t-shirt both read 'Tavlar Military Academy.' He was on an imperial shuttle bound for Jakku. Aunt Ivalyn sat across from him, he glanced her way. She was looking out the viewport just as he had been. They were not close to home, nowhere near it in fact, and the journey to Dosuun would have taken ages. Out near the Core, Jakku would be the place of refuge that the two sought. The nightmares had not only increased in intensity but frequency, as did the boy's terror-induced screams. All he could tell his aunt was that he felt as if he had been there, when Coruscant had been sacked by the Sith all those years ago.

Even on their way to Jakku, the boy had nodded off only to shriek, scream in terror as the echoes of the past latched onto him. Ivalyn had not a clue as to what had been wrong with the boy, but Romi Jade's name had come across as someone to turn to. The stars that clung around their shuttle seemed to almost welcome them to the desert-world. Iskendyr wasn't sure what to expect, the boy pulled a blanket over his shoulders, all he desired was a peaceful's night rest. Even now, all he could hear, feel and see were echoes of a painful Imperial past. Cries for Empires that no longer existed, subjugation of worlds that had been razed to the Nether and back.

In the dark of the night, the shuttle pierced the viel of the Jakku skies. The sounds of the engine hummed through the atmosphere, Ivalyn herself dressed in a pair of loose fitting sweatpants, and a sweater with a large cardigan over that. She pushed her hair back and readied herself for the shuttle's landing, when the boy's eyes rolled back into his head. She shouted for him, but Iskendyr could not hear her, instead the boy's mind was trapped in the past as Jakku's horrific past unvieled itself to him. He felt as if he was there as the Empire made its last stand against the New Republic.
