Echoes from the Past...

The dark hulled TIE-Seeker, Leo I, sat in a clearing in the forest. Like some dark squat bat, it’s black durasteel frame contrasted against the lush green overgrowth of the jungle. The cooling jets still hissed, creating a thick steam that filled the surrounding area with a shroud of grey that added to the already thick humidity on Guiteica.

Zarr tapped the data gauntlet on his forearm and ensured that the nav readings were still pointing him in the right direction. This was it. This was the home planet of his deceased master, Knight Commander Fayde. It was mid day still and Zarr would have still have enough time to reach his destination on the planet before nightfall, before the god's knew what would come creeping out of this imposing jungle.

Zarr clenched his eyes for a moment. He still felt the nagging frustration of the death of his late master between his shoulder blades. Fayde had been his first contact with the New Imperial Order nearly a year and a half ago. He pulled him from the wreckage of his tattered shuttle and saw a glimmer of hope in Zarr’s messy past. Fayde was the one who indoctrinated him into the NIO and guided him on his new path of understand of the force. Fayde was different the other knights. Fayde seemed to more in-tune with the force and accepted the force for more than just a mechanical tool. Zarr was often memorized by his eloquent speeches and flawless training with a lightsaber. His depth of respect for his master was the first real emotion he had felt towards another human since his mother had been taken hostage by the Sith. His father had been a cruel and merciless man, and his ex-military command on his home planet was a tyrant. Nonetheless, Fayde was something different. He had been a master, a mentor, and a father figure for Zarr. But that was all gone now, just echoes from the past.

Fayde’s death was still a mystery to the NIO and to the knights. The official statement issued by the military was that Fayde had died from some strange xeno-pathogen. A sickness that ate him from the inside out, liquifying his vital organs. Zarr couldn’t understand what had happened. The years of the plague were far in the past, mere fairytales to someone like him. There had been no indications that his master was even sick until it was too late. The lack of a deeper investigation on the part of some of his superiors left a bitter taste in Zarr’s mouth, so to speak.

He took a steadying breath and regained his composure for a moment. Rage is blindness. Zarr remembered the task at hand. His master had left him clear instructions to return to his residence to collect his last material possessions that he owned. What exactly Zarr would encounter was totally a mystery. But hopefully this small quest would shed some light on to the past of his late master and Zarr would be able to move on from this loss.

Zarr shook off the haziness that was fogging his mind, bogging down his emotions and clarity. Just as the cooling steam from his TIE had fogging the surrounding jungle. Zarr glanced down at his armor, the white duroplast scales were buffed and shined neatly. The logo of the New Imperial Order embossed on his left breast. His standard issue Imperial Knight lightsaber was cleanly polished and swung from his hip, it’s silver hilt glittered as it caught rays of the hot sun overhead.

Zarr moved forward, his first step through the thick jungle...
