- Unit Name: Eclipse Rebel Infantry
- Affiliation: Eclipse Rebellion (Eternal Empire)
- Classification: Infantry
- Description: Comprised of a variety of volunteers, militias from across the Unknown Regions and defectors from the former militaries of planets conquered by the Eternal Empire, the Eclipse Rebellion's infantry forces are an eclectic mixture of professional soldiers and insurgents with varying degrees of training. The bulk of the Eclipse infantry is comprised of former servicemen and women from the military forces of Bakura and Verkuyl, disbanded and replaced by Settlement Defense Force contingents after the annexation of the planet by the Eternal Empire.
Due to the brutal manner in which the Empire has subjugated those worlds and the massive cultural differences between the Eternal Empire's Heartland worlds and the rest of the provinces, large portions of the civilian populations of numerous planets under Imperial occupation, are largely supportive of the Rebellion and sympathetic to their cause, which drives a constant stream of volunteers and donations of money and equipment to funnel into the emerging rebellion, insuring that their combatant forces are better equipped and due to the large number of professional soldiers amongst them, better trained than most other insurgent organizations, although they are nowhere near as disciplined as the iron willed, almost automaton-like Imperial Ultranauts.
Their equipment consists largely of military-grade gear brought by defectors, or pilfered from storehouses on worlds occupied by the Eternal Empire, although there is a notable lack of standardization, as the rebels tend to receive a large number of volunteers and procuring sufficient amounts of proper military equipment to outfit them with, without the shipments being discovered by the Empire's military forces, is difficult and time consuming, as such it is not too uncommon to encounter units comprised of a mixture of professionally-trained and equipped soldiers, along with militia in various stages of training and equipped with a wide assortment of weapons and gear of wildly varying degrees of quality.
Organized into squads of ten, which can be split into smaller strike teams as the situation requires, rebel troopers lack the more formal structure of most military forces, their largest units being battalions which can be comprised of wildly different number of troops, the situation being similar on a company level. This gives them a high degree of flexibility, however it comes with the drawback of making it extremely difficult to organize and coordinate forces larger than a few thousand troopers.

- Combat Function: Eclipse rebel infantry form the backbone of the rebellion's ground units. Although having access to a large pool of good quality equipment and military-grade gear, they are not as well equipped as Imperial Ultranauts, who benefit from significantly greater resources and funding, nor are they as disciplined and well-trained, though this is does not mean they are ineffective in general, as Imperial Ultranauts are amongst the most infamously disciplined military outfits in the galaxy.
Due to their lack of comparable capability with the Empire's heavy infantry, the Eclipse troopers tend to rely on mobility, favoring lightning-fast hit and run attacks, utilizing light, quick landspeeders as their primary vehicles, unlike the Imperial military which favors slower, less maneuverable, but much more heavily armored tracked and wheeled vehicles. They are organized in squads of ten soldiers, which can split into smaller strike teams with varying numbers of members, depending on the situation and which are constituted ad-hoc, thus having a much more flexible overall structure than Imperial military units.
Primarily utilizing guerrilla-style warfare, they can be a deadly pest, whittling away at the enemy forces, striking where they identify weaknesses, then withdrawing before they can be properly engaged by their Imperial military counterparts, especially those in the Settlement Defense Force contingents, Ultranauts posing a significantly greater threat to them.
- Call me Che Guevara: Eclipse infantry function best as guerrillas organized into small-to-medium sized units, being capable of initiating lightning-fast attacks and withdrawing before the enemy is capable of organizing an effective response
- Cut off One Head: Due to popular support on many of the Empire's occupied worlds, the Eclipse Rebellion benefits from a constant stream of volunteers, making it easy to replace losses when and where they are incurred, the inclusion of former professional soldiers in large numbers insuring that new recruits are trained relatively quickly
- Rebel Scum: While relatively well equipped in comparison to most insurgencies, Eclipse infantry still do not fully match the capabilities, resources or funding of a professional military and as such, they are not as effective, well-trained, or disciplined as a conventional military force
- How's that Democracy working for You: The organizational structure of the Eclipse forces is much more loose and flexible, making them extremely difficult to coordinate effectively in deployments larger than a few thousand soldiers
The origins of the Eclipse infantry forces can be traced back to the Eternal Empire's brutal conquest of Bakura, the first world to fall under Imperial control outside of their pro-Imperial Heartland Province. When the Empire's eyes turned to Bakura, the local government was forced to surrender to Imperial control, as it was facing the prospect of a military conflict it could not win, thus the planetary government made the difficult decision to lay down arms.
Due to widespread protests from the civilian population, culminating in a number of violent incidents against the arriving Imperial forces, the Eternal Army retaliated with extreme brutality, crushing the peaceful protesters along with the armed insurgents, sparking a wave of anger across the planet, which then spread across the rest of the Unknown Regions which the Empire was unable to contain after their failure to prevent the emergent Eclipse Rebellion from broadcasting recordings of the massacre on Bakura to the rest of the galaxy.
As the local military of Bakura was disbanded and replaced with a contingent of Settlement Defense Force units, supported by four occupying Ultranaut Regiments deployed from the Heartland worlds, large numbers of the former Bakuran soldiers defected along with their equipment, a phenomenon which continues to this day, although procuring equipment has become much more difficult as the Empire has seized the inventory of the former local military, storing it in well-guarded facilities.
Along with defectors from Verkuyl, a planet which suffered the same fate as Bakura a mere month later, the Bakuran servicemen and women would go on to form the backbone of the Eclipse Rebellion's infantry forces, bringing their experience and military equipment with them in order to constitute a capable, if rough-around-the-edges military force with numbers supplemented by a steady stream of civilian volunteers outfitted with equipment of varying degrees of quality, but which are rapidly trained by the more veteran members, forming mixed squads of professional soldiers and civilian volunteers in order to facilitate this.
Eclipse infantry units have become an effective, flexible and highly mobile guerrilla force, capable of carrying out hit and run attacks with a noticeably high rate of success against Imperial SetDef forces, although Ultranauts pose a signifficant threat to them due to their massive advantage in discipline, training and firepower.
