With advances in technology since the last round of starship and starfighter designs, most of the older fighters utilized by the Compact have become antiquated. In order to replace them, a project is currently underway to create new fighters for use in combat by the Compact Navy. One such fighter is the Rapier-class. Designed as a needle-type starfighter, the slender design allows for increased speed and maneuverability while creating a thinner profile for opponents to target. In order to make this a possibility, the inclusion of a helical engine and a modular turret have allowed systems to be maneuvered at the rear of the ship to keep the profile thin. Flight testing has shown this fighter performs just as well as the Rush-class, but with better defenses and a better package of auxiliary systems.
