OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
- Intent: To further flesh out Yurb's defenses in an easily referenced submission
- Image Credit: Research Lab by chromatinker (originally posted on Deviantart, now found only on reddit)
- Canon: N/A
- Permissions: Permissions for Y-Ties and mentioning of glasser stations
- Links: Lervon, Yurb, Silver Jedi
- Military Base Name: Edsert Outpost
- Classification: Outpost
- Location: Yurb
- Affiliation: Silver Jedi, Yurbian Republic
- Population: Insignificant (<100 individuals/droids at any given time)
- Demographics: Mostly native Lervon local defense force volunteers augmented by some leftover Imperial maintenance droids. A small Antarian Ranger liaison office keeps a dozen individuals at any given time, most of which are human. It is not uncommon for the base to be used as a pitstop for small Silver Jedi starships and starfighter squadrons (with their associated personnel) to briefly make a home at the outpost too.
- Accessibility: An old Galactic Empire outpost on the edge of the capital city of Edsert, this base is extremely old and well-known to anyone with a rudimentary knowledge of the world. It is extremely easy to find: It is located just at the northern edge of the city. Most of the native Lervon and foreign visitors have little interest in the base however, as it has almost no attraction to it, unless one is in need of an emergency landing strip. Despite the city's growth after the fall of the Galactice Empire years ago, Edsert Outpost remains fairly primitive and dilapidated.
- Description: Edsert Outpost is a small base dating to the times of Palpatine's New Order and the rise of the Galactic Empire and its occupation of thousands of worlds, including Yurb. Since the fall of that empire, Esdert Base has largely been preserved as a memorial site to the occupation until recently refurbished by the natives to protect their capital city. Like the Glasser STations which orbit the world, Edsert Outpost is a fusion of dated Imperial technology and Lervon technology. The old Imperial hangar now houses Y-Ties and the holoNet Center has now been repurposed to house a Force-Dome generator to protect the outpost and Edsert itself. The rest of the base consists of minor facilities and perimeter defenses that date back to its original construction by the Empire. While the Yurbian Republic has been reluctant to modify the base in the past, that attitude has slowly been changing as the galaxy has become more chaotic and dangerous. It seems likely that the base will be increasingly modified and enlarged in the future based on discussions within the Yurbian Republic.
Barracks: This quartet of duracrete structures once housed the Imperial Army troopers and stormtroopers assigned to garrison the world. Most of the structures are now used as storage areas for the base's supplies, though one still serves its original billeting function for the Antarian Ranger staff and official governmental visitors.
Hangars: A quartet of squat, duracrete starship hangars are located in the center of the base. Three of them house native Y-Ties operated by the Yurb Defense Forces. The fourth houses the base's few ground vehicles but also has space to spare which is typically used to house visiting starships from Silver Jedi organizations, notably the Antarian Rangers.
Shield Generator: Formerly a holoNet transceiver station when the Empire ruled the world, this building now houses a Starlight Scutum-series Shield System. Powered by the fusion generators originally used by the holoNet transceiver, this shield is large and strong enough to provide a protective sphere about around the outpost and Edsert itself. Sections of the shield can be lowered to briefly allow passage of starships, vehicles, peoples, and other objects. The shield sections projected underground are not typically lowered, as there typically no reason to except for to adjust underground water tables underneath the city. The power generators were not designed to support a system as power hungry as the Starlight Scutum generator, and it seems likely that the shield can only hold-out for a limited time under concentrated assault. The Yurbian Republic plans to obtain more powerful power generators soon to replace the original generators.
Administrative buildings: This cluster of prefabricated buildings continue to serve the administrative purposes they were originally designed, though under new ownership. An emergency operations center here.
Perimeter Defenses: Edsert Outpost has energized fences around its perimeter interpersed among duracrete pillboxes and a handful of DF.9 gun emplacements.
SECURITY: Low
Permanent Installation Defenses
- 1 Starlight Scutum-series Shield System (when activated, encompasses outpost AND Esdert)
- Energy fencing and moat around perimeter of outpost
- Several prefabricated pillboxes scattered around outpost perimeters
- 5 DF.9 Emplacements
- 50 Lervon local defense volunteers with ex-Imperial E-11 blaster rifles and LXR-6 Concussion Grenades
- 12 KX-series Security Droids (ex-Imperial) also equipped with ex-Imperial E-11 blaster rifles and LXR-6 Concussion Grenades
- small numbers of visiting Antarian Rangers or Antarian Ranger liaison staff
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Edsert Outpost was originally constructed by the Galactic Empire shortly before the Battle of Yavin as part of their occupation of the world. The outpost originally consisted of only a handful of pre-fabricated buildings which were gradually expanded into more permanent structures, including a holoNet Transciever station, a small starfighter hangar, barracks and some basic defenses. Shortly thereafter, the sector moff decided that control of the world would be better accomplished through the orbital stations that later on became known as Glasser stations. With decision, the outpost was only manned with a skeleton crew by the Empire. With that government's collapse and the world's liberation, the outpost fell under control of the Yurbian government, who aside from providing some basic maintenance to the existing structures as part of preserving their world's history of the Imperial occupation, have largely left the outpost alone until recently. With chaos and war once more spreading across the galaxy, the Yurbian government slowly shuffled their feet into turning it into a credible usage again. To that end, the Yurbian Republic has started rotating its defense force volunteers to man the outpost and have stationed a squadron of Y-Ties in the old Imperial starfighter hangar. Perhaps most importantly, they rehabiliated the old holoNet node into the housing for a newly purchased Starlight Scutum series shield system to act as a traditional Force Dome for the not only the base, but the nearby capital city. While an unusually expensive purchase for the Republic, the memory of the orbital bombardment of the Roosha Community still resonates with much of the population.
