--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Strengths:
An Eye for Strategy:
While at times rudimentary, Edward Thane has spent time studying military strategy, specifically anything related to the subject of naval warfare. He is by no means a prodigy and he lacks years of experience.
Educated:
Thane has been formally educated, possessing knowledge on a wide variety of subjects ranging from mathematics to history. He is by no means foolish.
Single minded:
Everything Edward Thane does is to propel himself forward, as such he pursues his goals relentlessly, no one will get in the way of his ambitions.
Weaknesses:
Eye for an Eye:
Any slight made against Thane is seen as a great offense and can only be reconciled with an equal payment in return. He is vengeful and, next to his ambitions, will put all his focus on exacting revenge.
Uncaring:
Thane has little affection for his peers, seeing them as opposition or merely temporary equals. Aloof and indifferent he cares not for the goals of others and does not disguise that fact.
Appearance:
Edward Thane appears almost non-unique. Nothing peculiar stands out beyond his youth. He looks fresh from the naval academy and bears the strict appearance regulations that were enforced through training. Well-kept blonde hair, cut short and cleaned, rests atop his head. A pair of muddy irises are divided by a single straight nose. His visage is often dour and detached.
Neither stocky or lean, he stands at an average height and is rarely seen outside of his Iron Empire military uniform, despite no longer being apart of their military.
Biography:
Edward Thane was brought into the world to parents constantly on the run. Before he could walk they were moving from one system to the next. His early youth was quite a blur and he bears few memories of those years, but where they left him was pronounced. The galaxy seemed like such a dark place and he knew he would not get by on charity and alone, Thane drifted around independent space, growing up as a mix between a street-rat and cheap employment.
Manual labor, simple servitude, bus boy, and anything else that would allow him to procure cheap subsistence and a ticket to the next system. Aimless the wanderer was, without a goal in life beyond survival. There was no spark in him, no ignition of passion that dwelled in the hearts of others. Even as he grew into a man his only focus was on the next day. As he aged the lack of education began to weigh upon his employment prospects, for he would be unable to advance beyond this basic level, and more than once was he tempted into seedier employment as he drifted closer to the Unknown Region of the galaxy.
That is when Thane found himself on the planet of Arondight, the jewel of the Iron Empire. It was different to say the least, to the uneducated transient it was a place of splendor, though not without its troubles. These people were different, strange, an oddity, and he spent most of his time observing them and their customs.
An opportunity came to the man in the form of a recruitment officer who caught Thane, keeping himself busy with work, and began to press on him the qualities and benefits of joining the Iron Empire Military, using his trained charisma to all but force Edward into signing enlistment papers. To this day he does not know the name of said officer, but he has yet to regret the decision.
The next few years flew by quickly, the military providing him access to all sorts of opportunities he had never dreamed of, let alone had. He threw himself into his studies, years behind many of his peers, determined to excel above and beyond expectations. No book or subject was left untouched, and when his education continued onto the military field he adapted along with it. His later years were spent enthralled with military doctrine and stratagem as well as focused on new goals, dreams of status and opportunity. The end of those years came swiftly and Thane found himself in the role of Ensign, commanding a solitary vessel. The starship was small, but that was no concern of his.
He might not be considered a patriot, but he was determined to give all he had to the Iron Empire. When the empire finally fell through he and those of his crew that sought to depart from their service took the ship granted to them by the military and headed for independent space. The crew was short on numbers, most preferring to remain on Arondight, but efficient. They put work into keeping the ship operational.
Bouncing from once system to the next, picking up odd jobs and short escorts across the galaxy, they picked up a variety of more unique members. While not exactly beholden to the same standards as he was, these men served diligently and were at the very least loyal to the credits supplied from the various jobs.
While getting by was possible, Thane had been here before. It was time to change things up.
