Strengths:
Stealth: The Eidolon sports numerous stealth systems ranging from the highly advanced Blackest Night Stealth system, to stealth engines and even to down to optical shields found originally found on the SkyBlind Reconnaissance Ship. While not impossible to detect, especially at close ranges, it is very difficult to find by random chance.
Misdirection: The Eidolon is designed to get people to where they aren't supposed to be, and it does not only do so by stealth alone. The hull-cutting ring allows the ship's occupants to make their own entries, while the ship's decoy launcher can create distractions or false leads for enemies to chase.
Weaknesses:
-low performance while running in stealth mode: The Eidolon is very much a lesser starship with all of its stealth systems in operation. The optical shield's power use means that the ship doesn't have any ray shielding during its use. In addition, the ship's physical flight performance is also very limited when it is running on its coldest setting. It is generally equivalent to a corvette, a ship often ten times the transport's size.
-limited cargo capacity: Because of the Eidolon is on the smaller side of the typical dropship scale, and because of all of the special systems, it carries far less people and cargo than most transports its size. Despite being almost as large as Lambda-class Shuttle, it carries only a little more than half of its passengers and cargo.
Description: The Eidolon-class Transport is an advanced stealth and infiltration craft used by the Galactic Republic, especially GRIM, and the Jedi Order. Nearly every aspect of the ship has been designed with that mission in mind. The base of the ship's stealth systems is the LLT-13 Blackest Night Stealth System, which provides it with all of the basic necessities to vanish from most sensor screens. But the Eidolon also incorporates auxiliary stealth systems to make it even more difficult to spot, including a stealth drive system and optical shields derived from the SkyBlind Reconnaissance Ship. But use of both of these systems severely hampers the ship's flight performance and physical defenses respectively. It also sports an Ion-scrambler, allowing the ship to make communications without having its exact location compromised, though such use will likely alert an enemy that an enemy ship is present even if its position can't be pinpointed. Because repulsorlifts have their own unique signatures that can be detected by some sensors, the Eidolon often makes use two turbofans, each one built into one of its main wings. These turbofans allow it to hover in place undetected by enemy sensors. While relatively quiet to the outside world, they are notoriously noisy within the ship itself.
The ship's fuselage is divided into two habitable compartments. The cockpit has two seats, one for a pilot and a co-pilot/weapons operator. Just to the left of the cockpit entrance is a cramped refresher station while to the right is an autochef. This front area of the ship is sealed off from the cargo bay/passenger hold by an airlock. The cargo bay itself is relatively narrow, and has bench seats lining the starboard and port sides. During normal trips, the ship can seat a dozen people in the rear bay, though more people can be carried for short hops if they're willing to stand in the middle and hold onto the overhead railings. But this central area is typically reserved for securing mission cargo, such as speeder bikes, or left open to allow easy access to the http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Hull-cutting_ring]hull-cutting ring[/FONT] and its associated airlock built into the ship's floor. This hull-cutting device is typically used to allow the ship to board enemy starships or to provide an entry point into enemy facilities such as skyscrapers and the like. But during most operations, people enter and exit the craft through a rear ramp that is located just underneath the ship's engine compartment.
Because their specialized nature and high costs, Eidolons are typically only attached to GRIM, elite military units, and the Jedi Order. When they are used, they are almost always instructed to avoid open combat if at all possible, though some ships are used to provide fire support for mission teams as needed. Because of their clandestine nature, Eidolons do not have any transponder signals burned into their engines, nor do they officially exist.
