Private Electric Office

Kiffu
Senator's Office

(Tag: Sable Varro Sable Varro )

Ilri always found peace with the storms, the electrical currents a unique power source for Kiffu's infrastructure. Even here, watching them from the open window of her office, the good Senator allowed herself a moment's relaxation, before getting to the appointments.

...Okay, enough admiration. Now for the appointments.

Swivelling in her seat, Ilri hunched over and looked over the list of people she had to greet (and tolerate) for the day, prior to her return trip for Fondor. The office interior was short and white, nothing wholly decorated save the off holo-picture, Ilri just needed some more time.

Sable sat with one leg crossed over the other, reclined just enough in the chair outside the senator's office to appear comfortable—maybe too comfortable for a political building like this. She blinked at the itch on her scalp from the dye. She wasn't used to wearing her hair this short, but she did hope this plan went as she hoped.

She wore her casual attire with purpose—sleeves rolled, collar loosened, every inked mark on her arms and collarbone fully visible. Old gang sigils, prison ink, foreign glyphs that meant nothing to most but told whole stories to those who knew where to look. A holster sat slung low at her hip, mostly ornamental. Mostly.

Her gaze slid toward the secretary now and then, half-lidded and lazy, but calculating. A faint smile played on her lips, not flirtatious, not quite—more like she already knew how this meeting would go and was letting the moment stretch.

"You sure she's not just letting the lightning set the mood in there?" She murmured to the secretary, voice low and smooth. "Could've worn something more official, but… I figured if I'm going to play politics, I might as well make it fun."

She tilted her head back slightly, letting the stormlight catch in her eyes.

"Tell the Senator I don't mind waiting. Some things are worth a little suspense."

When in about five minutes, the secretary recieved a notification from the boss herself, offering a short nod over to the waiting recipient. "The Senator will see you now."

Said Senator finishing up another signing, amber eyes cleanly attentive with the tedium of the day. However, when the doors slid open above, the Kiffar's gaze curiously peered upwards, taking note of the young woman entering, offering a short nod.

"Excuse me, one second." Another sign-off and... Done.

Stacking the papers, Ilri adopted a professional posture, smiling to the visitor in light expectancy.

Sable stepped through the doors at an unhurried pace, the kind of stroll that suggested control rather than delay. She didn't rush—didn't need to. Let them read her however they liked.

The stormlight flickered again across her features as she entered, casting her tattoos in shifting contrast—faded symbols, sharp lines, and a few fresh enough to gleam under the office's lighting. She made no move to hide them. Quite the opposite.

Her eyes flicked over the room—first to the stark decor, then to the Senator herself. She met Ilri's amber gaze with a flicker of amusement and something more unreadable beneath.

"Senator," Sable greeted smoothly, with the barest dip of her head—respectful, but not deferential.

She took a few steps forward but didn't sit just yet, hands relaxed at her sides, one thumb hooked at her belt. "Appreciate you seeing me. Hope I'm not interrupting anything too thrilling, I've seen a handful of political drama shows, but I never thought they were, you know, actually real." Her tone was lightly teasing, but there was a sharp awareness behind the smile she offered.

She paused, just enough to let the air stretch a little between them.

"I imagine you've had your fill of tedious faces today—figured I'd give you something a little more interesting."

She motioned to her attire, smiling politely to her. Now she moved to take the seat offered, settling in with practiced grace.

"Shall we talk business, we can watch the storms as we speak."
She muses, crossing her legs, leaning back in the chair. "I must say, being the first senator I've met, you are a sight to behold." She says softly, before leaning forward. "But, thank you for meeting with me. I came, in regards to...concerns I have...namely about our beloved Galactic Alliance."

By the end of the newcomer's speech, the eyebrow almost disappeared into her hairline.

"A non-native to Kiffu coming all this way to speak with me regarding Alliance concerns, as opposed to waiting for my office on Fondor?" The corners of her lips twitched, Ilri found herself both bemused, and intrigued. Never mind the charming speech her new acquaintance took.

Leaning forward a little, the good politician motioned for her to continue.

"Please, go on, Miss... Alana, was it?"

'Alana's smile curved a little wider at the raised brow, clearly catching the reaction and savoring it just a bit. She leaned back, letting the chair creak slightly under her as if to underline just how unbothered she was by the scrutiny.

"Alana Calloway," she echoed softly, almost tasting the name like an old memory. It was like poison in her mouth. "Yes ma'am, that's me."

Her eyes flicked toward Ilri's hands—professional, poised, perfectly still—then back up to meet the Senator's gaze with a flicker of challenge.

"I thought about it, honestly. But I want to talk to a senator, not a body of bureaucrats."

She let that hang in the air a beat before continuing, the shift in her posture subtle—a slight lean forward, a deliberate narrowing of space between formality and familiarity.

"I came here because I wanted to see who I was dealing with firsthand. Hard to judge someone's convictions from a comm line and a few polished speeches. I...come with something a bit more, personal. Maybe something you would be interested in."

She tilted her head slightly, tone growing more measured now. "I was a mercenary at one point, did a lot of work, some of it for the Galactic Alliance. Sadly, don't have much to show for it these days."

Then, casually, she let her hand rest on the armrest of the chair.

"I'm...a bit in a rough bind, being honest, Senator."

Her gaze sharpened just a touch—testing, waiting.

"I have a rather extensive background, and it's coming up on me. I'd like...to try and turn myself around. With your help."

Now that was interesting.

Interlocking her hands, mouth pressed between the stretched gloves, Ilri cocked a surprised brow, amber eyes unwavering while she listened. But first, more information would be mandatory.

"Could you expand more on this... Background? The more I comprehend, the more I can help you, Miss Calloway."

'Alana' let a small, coy smile curve her lips, leaning just slightly forward in her seat—not enough to crowd, but enough to seem a little more intimate, more real.

"Of course, Senator."

She exhaled softly, like the weight of the story wasn't rehearsed—even though every word had been measured.

"I was born out on Nar Shadda, grew up on Dantooine. Nothing fancy, just sky, soil, and a lot of old ghosts. My folks weren't good people, but they ended up on the wrong side of the Jedi Order. When the Empire cracked down after the War, they disappeared. Never found the bodies—just scorch marks and an empty house."

She shrugged one shoulder, the motion slow and deliberate. "I was picked up by a Ranger Sector lawmen. Ended up in their care. Grew up learning to track, shoot, dig through systems…but I didn't stay clean. There's not a lot of clean out there."

Her fingers tapped idly on her knee, eyes flickering with just the right amount of faux vulnerability.

"Spent years freelancing, sometimes courier work, sometimes bounty runs. Never joined the Guild. Too many eyes. Too many rules. But I learned how things move, how people move. And I kept hearing about you. About what you were doing out here while most Senators were still hiding behind durasteel walls."

'Alana' let the words hang in the air a second, then softened her tone a little.

"I'm not looking for redemption, Senator. Just purpose. And maybe a place to stand before the next war hits the ground. I can help. I know people the Alliance doesn't. I see things your security teams overlook. I just need a chance to prove it."

A pause. Then, almost like an afterthought—too casual to be coincidence:

"…and I figured better to come to the most grounded voice in the chambers before the desk-pushers try to chew me up."

She let her gaze meet Ilri's evenly—still smiling, but with a flicker of something else beneath it.

A tragic backstory, afterwards followed with a promising career that'd benefit them all? While Ilri looked sympathetic to her plight, she wasn't just going to keel over and take everything by the young woman's word. Quite the contrary.

Further proof would be required for the validity of her word. Leaning forward some more, Ilri inquired with a tone not unkind, "What Sector were you rescued in? I could request your documents delivered here so I can take a more extensive look into your background, in the matter of security, you understand."

Then added with the second question.

"And exactly what employment are you seeking in particular, Miss Calloway?"

Sable didn't miss a beat. Her smile didn't falter, but her eyes narrowed slightly—just enough to suggest a touch of caution beneath her otherwise practiced demeanor.

"This was a while ago, honestly. I was a child, and it was on Nar Shaddaa. I’m not sure if that sector has been renamed or reshuffled, but that’s the one.”

She let that statement linger—just enough plausible deniability to dodge deeper scrutiny, while still sounding sincere. Then she softened her posture, slipping into something just a little more earnest.

"As for employment…well, I'm not asking to sit behind a desk. That's not what I'm good at. What I am good at is listening in places your analysts can't reach. I can move in and out of places, talk to people who don't trust badges or crests, and bring back things your regular operatives might miss."

A short pause, then she leaned forward slightly, voice quieter, more personal.

"If you need to test me, I'm offering to assist with information gathering. Discreet work. Quiet leads. Unofficial channels. I’m good at this, Senator."

She tilted her head slightly. Perhaps a bit too eager.

"I trusting we can both benefit, is all I’m saying."

Okay, so not prior document to her registration would be present. Ilri supposed she could delve deeper, but the resources would be expensive, more considerably costing than she was willing to part, in these times.

The Kiffar smirked lightly, quirking a humoured brow, "Sounds like you're just trying to butter me up, Miss Calloway." It wasn't strictly a no, not yet. "Just so we're on the same page: You're asking for the job of... How shall we put it, investigator?"

‘Alana’ chuckled softly at that, the sound low and warm, but laced with just enough self-awareness to seem disarming.

"Well, Senator, I am trying to butter you up. Wouldn't be very good at my job if I didn't know how to handle a little diplomacy, would I?"

The funny part being, she didn’t.

She let the joke breathe a second, then let the mask settle back into something more composed—serious, but not stiff.

"But yes. Investigator, if that's what you'd prefer to call it. I like to think of it more as… intelligence gathering. Finding the threads others miss. Listening where no one else can. I'm not asking for a title or a badge—just the work. Something off the books, if that suits you better."

A pause, her tone shifting again, this time just faintly pointed.

"You don't need another report collector, Senator. You need someone who can walk into a den of sabacc cheaters, spice runners, or ex-Imperial sympathizers and come out with the truth. Someone who doesn't wear the Alliance colors loud enough to scare off the ones worth listening to."

She leaned back a bit now, letting her confidence settle.

“Investigator, shadow agent, freelancer, whatever you need to call it. I'm offering you a set of eyes and ears in places your holoreports don't reach."

And then, with a little half-smirk of her own. "We can always discuss this another time. It’s no rush."

(Tag: Sable Varro Sable Varro )

"Then you won't mind if I do an extensive background check before making any promises?" Ilri leaned back, the question more rhetorical, as she motioned in half-apology. "Nothing personal, I'd just make a poor Senator if I trusted every new individual requesting a job by their word."

Keenly waiting for any counterargument, or response. Depending how Alana may answer would further provide validity to her claims or desires.

Sable gave a soft, almost amused exhale through her nose—more a sign of respect than protest.

"No, Senator," she said with a nod, voice calm and composed. "I'd be more suspicious if you didn't."

She folded her hands neatly in her lap, posture relaxed but with a trace of that old, iron-edge discipline beneath it. "You're right not to trust easy. I wouldn't. That's half the reason I came to you in person—to show I've got nothing to hide. Or at least, nothing worth hiding from the right people."

Then, with a slight smirk, her tone dipped more casual again—purposefully so.

"You dig deep enough, you'll find some rough edges. A few old records under aliases, maybe even a bounty that didn't stick. But if you're looking for someone clean-cut and spotless, you'll find them behind a desk—not in the places where you actually need eyes."

Sable leaned forward just enough to reestablish that quiet connection, her voice lowering a touch.

"I'm not afraid of scrutiny, Senator. Please, dear, run your check. Ask your questions. Pull whatever string you like. I'll still be here when the dust settles."

She paused, then gave one last, slow smile—cool and confident.

"And when it does, I hope you'll remember that the ones worth trusting are usually the ones who've already walked through fire."

(Tag: Sable Varro Sable Varro )

Ilri pursed her lips, the confident 'dear' spiking some trepidation, but the politician had no reason yet to determine her a threat... Or an asset, until the background check's complete.

More relaxed into her chair, Ilri soon nodded, offering little more than a guarantee to conclude this light business.

"Will you be ready for me to contact you at any time?"

Sable inclined her head slightly, the movement smooth, composed—measured just right between respect and charm.

"Of course," She said, tone soft but assured. "Day or night, Senator, just let me know. I don't exactly keep a rigid schedule."

Then, with just the hint of a smirk tugging at the corner of her mouth, she added, "Besides…I get the feeling your calls aren't the sort one leaves unanswered."

She stood slowly, with a grace that suggested coiled readiness beneath the casual wear, brushing a strand of hair back from her face. The tattoos along her arms shifted subtly with the movement—more visible now, more intentional.

"If there's anything else, I'll leave you to your very busy schedule."

A slight dip of her head in mock formality, but her eyes still held that simmering sharpness.

"But, I look forward to hearing from you, Senator."

Unless Ilri stops her, she'll turn and make her exit, quiet, but unmistakably deliberate.

(Tag: Sable Varro Sable Varro )

She didn't stop her, Ilri only watched the back of the potential candidate as she parted through the sliding doors, leaving the Senator to ponder the possibilities now, of the supposed new jobtaker.

Leaning back in her seat, lightning roared and powered the conduits that made the city thrive, adding a stunning serenity to one lost in thought.

Alana Calloway...

She'll be one to watch out, for sure. First the background check, then...

Well, one couldn't be too careful in wartime. Nor was Ilri inclined to wholly trust her gut.
