OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
Elek grew up in a Caamasi enclave in an old starship that they converted into a self-sustaining community, striving to preserve and adapt the Caamasi culture to a nomadic way. She excelled as a child, taking quickly to philosophy and abstract analytical games with a passion. In addition, rather than isolating herself in the world of the abstract, she also was a hydroponics gardener, learning to care for and nurture all living things. This stayed with her as she grew into adulthood and the compassion she learned gave her a passion for helping others, leading her to go into law and politics. However, being a Caamasi enclave, she realized there was little work to be done aboard the ship. As a result, she studied at the University of Coruscant, eventually getting a double doctorate and running several humanitarian NGOs dedicated to aiding those negatively affected by the many wars that have torn through the Core. Eventually, she realized that it made more sense to try to prevent these rather than repair the damage, and went into politics of the Corellian Confederation, seeing them as the best chance the Core had for a return to a democratic state.
When word began to be discussed of the Republic, she was one of its fiercest champions and helped draft the Republic Charter, shaping its language to serve those in need, and devising a political model meant to prevent the corruption, excess, and power consolidation of the previous Republics by instituting a bicameral legislature rather than a unicameral one, including term limits, requiring politicians to divest themselves from their businesses and other interests for the length of their terms of service. Much to her surprise, this dedication led to her being elected the first Chancellor of the Republic, with the responsibility of navigating delicate and complicated relationships with the Greyson Imperium, the threat of the Sith, and solidifying the Republic into a stable government while also ensuring its ideals are upheld and new traditions established to carry the fledgling Republic forward into a future that people can believe in.
