PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

Elim Thorne is a man of slender grace and crisp edges. Dark, wavy hair sweeps back from a widow's peak, framing high cheekbones, a sharp nose and prominent chin. He moves with the energetic charm of a dancer. His age is hard to place, his face relatively unlined but lacking the softness of youth. His eyes are bright and quick, in contrast with his slow smile.

His clothing is not always of the finest quality, but is always impeccably tailored.

INVENTORY

PERSONALITY AND BELIEFS

Thorne is a student of chance. He allows himself to be moved by the hand of the Force. He rarely plans ahead, but often seems to end up in just the right place, at just the right time. On more than one occasion, he has informed people that they needed him before they even were aware of it themselves. It's not always clear why he helps who he helps, or what side he will take in a conflict. He holds no firm alliances to anyone but himself and the winds of chance that blow him from one side of the galaxy to the other.

He has casual acquaintances and favors owed across the galaxy, but prefers to keep to the outer planets and less mainstream corners of society. He rarely gets directly involved in major conflicts or political events, though his assistance sometimes creates ripples that impact the course of history.

His reputation is notable in two regards: First, as somewhat of an eccentric, who is known to talk to himself upon occasion; and secondly, as a source for odd and often useful objects. He has an uncanny knack for the authentication of artifacts, and though it isn't always clear what his sources might be, he can often determine details about the origins and history of an item after spending some time with it. Sometimes this will come with a sense of purpose - how it needs to be used, or who it needs to belong to.

He has a passionate interest in artifacts of this kind, and also enjoys card games (including gambling), tea, and exotic foods. He always carries a well-thumbed, antique Sabbacc deck on him, which he sometimes shuffles between his hands as he thinks.

STRENGTHS

Spirit Sensitivity: Thorne has a special ability to sense and talk to spirits, including ghosts, genus loci, or the spirit of a potent object. This lets him gain often-crucial information, and frequently guides his decision making.

Puppet of the Force: Whether it's a strange kind of luck, finely-honed instincts, or some form of madness, Thorne tends to be the right person, at the right place, at the right time.

I Know a Guy: Thorne's web of contacts is large, and if he doesn't have what you need, he probably knows someone that does.

WEAKNESSES

Wanderlust: Constantly drawn from one place to the next, Thorne's contacts are many, but his friends are few. His ship is the closest thing he has to a home. His fortunes are constantly shifting - he might land a huge windfall one day, and lose it all the next. While he maintains a philosophical air of acceptance for this way of life and chooses to trust that everything will turn out as it needs to in the end, he does not have any stable support system, family, or home to rely on.

Fickle Friend: Because his way of life is so impulse-driven, Thorne's loyalty is often seen as inconsistent and unreliable. He has lost friends and gained debts and enemies because he felt pulled to act in a way that caused trouble for his "allies". Though generally regarded as useful, few consider him trustworthy in the long run.

Color Blind: Thorne is red-green colorblind. He has corrective glasses that allow him to discern a normal spectrum but only wears them when playing Sabacc or examining a new potential acquisition, as the glasses are a unique artifact themselves.

HISTORY

Elim Thorne has worked a variety of jobs over the past couple of decades or more. He's been a courier and a taxi, a smuggler, a buyer, an explorer, an information broker, and even joined the team of a heist or two. He's lived on dozens of planets in that time, never for longer than a year (with one or two notable exceptions). He's been hired by causes, but doesn't join them, and usually only works for the underdog (regardless of alignment).

Once, in his early 20s, he did join a cause, drawn in by friendship and other affections against his better instincts. The resulting disaster convinced him that he was not fated for a life with those kinds of loyalties.
