Elysium Base

Name: Elysium Base. Though, more correctly, since the only inhabitants are droids, it probably doesn’t have such a dramatic name in actual use.

Intent: To create a secret, permanent base for Archangel. From here they can continue their nefarious plans of mass genocide in peace, using an existing mining base and the planet’s caves to best use. This base relies on powerful weapons and secrecy for defence, though any sufficiently large or determined military force could overcome it in time.

Classification: Covert installation.

Location: Elysium, on the site of an old Loronar mining factory.

Affiliation: Archangel Research and Development

Population: 500 guard droids (100 active, rest on standby), 1000 misc service and support droid units, 20 mining droids, 10 human replica droids (control units).

Defenses: The Elysium base is very heavily defended.

Concealed out of sight four Sariss Planetary Cannons could fire right into orbit with lethal effect. These weapons can fire once every fifteen seconds or so, thus keeping up a semi-continual barrage from the ground.

Enemies getting to the ground or attempting to attack from the air have to contend with no less than a score of Preserver Defence Turrets, strategically scattered to provide covering fields of fire. These too are concealed when not in use.

A hanger containing 36 droid fighters is situated in a cave near the main base. These are able to activate and go into action very quickly.

There is only one conventional entrance; near a large landing pad in a canyon. This landing pad is covered by no less than four turrets. The entrance can be sealed, and is made of hardened durasteel.

Inside the base ray shield protector traps, such as those on the Invisible Hand in the Clone Wars, can be found around the control centre and reactor entrances.

Security blast doors and air locks are also implemented to seal off areas of the base and vent those areas of oxygen if needed.

Finally the cells are able to disperse poison gas to liquidate prisoners if required. Neither this or the above is a big danger to droids.

There is one key weakness in the overall defence; there is no defence shield protecting the base in a dome. Partly this is due to the mountain providing protection, but also because the power demands in addition to the weapons, droids, fighters and processing machines would be too much even for the reactor to handle.

Points of Interest: The Elysium base has several interesting locations.
The Cells: Organics captured or purchased are imprisoned here before being processed. This clean, sterile area can hold up to 100 unfortunates at a time. Any disobedience or escape attempts are met with unmerciful execution or processing.
The Processing Machines: The Elysium base contains both the Mk I and Mk II Processing machines. The Mk II, which entechs the organic to produce a near perfect infiltrator, is much more expensive and complex to use, thus is only used in special cases. The Mk I device though is large and constantly working. It can process ten organics per day into HRDs.
The Mines: Mining still continues in the deeper caves. In theory an infiltrator could navigate the warren of caves and tunnels and came at the base from within, but finding one’s way through unseen would be extremely difficult.
The Factory: A factory for creating the droids produced by Archangel has been established in the depths of the caverns. Production is small in scale, and mainly focussed on producing the HRD parts needed for the processing machines.
Landing Pad: In the canyon a large landing area, capable of handling a transport of up to 400m in length has been laid out. As mentioned above this is covered by heavy weaponry.
Hanger: A hanger facility capable of holding 3 squadrons of droid fighters is housed nearby and able to harass any attacker.
The Reactor: A hypermatter reactor powers the Elysium base from its core deep within the mountain. This is well protected by the thick stone around it from anything but a BDZ attack or internal sabotage.

Description: The base is located on Elysium, a dry, cold and airless rock far from the hyperlanes. Long ago, the planet underwent a cataclysm which exterminated the primitive life on it and boiled the considerable oceans to dust. Those oceans had made vast caves, and it is here that the Elysium base is located.
From the air the base is almost invisible. From a short distance above a powerful scanner tower can be observed, along with some suspicious looking metal hatches and domes. However, if one is close enough to see this, one would be in range of the array of heavy weapon turrets, and the heavy Sariss cannons. The main base area is located inside a vast mountainside, whilst the hanger, landing area and the only true entrance is located in a canyon below.

The base itself features no amenities or living areas, as droids are the only workers. There are numerous recharging, repair and storage facilities though.
The base’s reactor is set deep into the rock, but even its vast power cannot keep up with all the base’s needs at once. Thus, if the defence turrets or Sariss cannons are required, the Processing machines cannot be used at the same time.

Lacking a shield, the base could in theory be pounded from orbit by a Star Destroyer, and whilst that would destroy the surface defences and cause considerable damage the deepest areas would be virtually unaffected by anything except a superlaser or a concentrated low-orbit bombardment. Whether anyone would bother doing this is another matter, especially since droids cannot be starved or threatened into surrender. Still, such a thing is possible.

History: Originally a Loronar mining base, that company’s ‘acquisition’ by Archangel brought the base on Elysium under their control as well. Seeing it as a brilliant location, Moira and Maelion set about constructing a secret installation which would function both as a stronghold and a processing facility. As Elysium is an almost unknown world far from public knowledge this base’s greatest defence is secrecy, but the massive Sariss cannons also help!

Ladies, ladies, no need to fight over my submission. :p

Either way, this embarrassing oversight on my part has been corrected.
