BIG Z1776
Baboon with a MAAWS
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
This versatile weapon is a dedicated short-range defense turret, which can be on their primary field carriages, a stationary mount with a turret, or as part of a warship's anti-starfighter flak screen. Some more enterprising non-government actors that get their hands on these weapons can also just bolt them into the bed of a speeder truck for a mobile multipurpose weapon. However, this weapon thrives as part of a planned air defense network working with other air defense weapons while patched into the feed from a network of larger and more powerful fire control computers and military sensor screens. When in its attack mode it no longer needs these centralized fire control systems and sensor feeds because of its integral droid brain because its battery (of six turrets) fire control system is able to take over and begin engaging targets by filling the sky with thousands of laser bolts and/or air bursts to bring down anything from small drones to large bombers that stray into range. Like most other CRAF weapons it usually possesses a highly mobile logistics train nearby able to support the guns in all respects.

- A twin gun mount with very rapid traversing and elevating mechanisms it can keep up with and successfully bring down starfighters on attack runs.
- Complex built-in sensor systems and droid brain which entirely dedicated to figuring and executing anti-aircraft firing solutions allows long-range (~5,000 Meters) firing to be accurate and adaptive to most evasive actions.
- Contains a large rapid-replace, rapid recharge power cell which can be lifted off from its place at waist level after hitting a single button to unlock two locking tabs and then the gunners can replace it with a simple drop into the power cell slot.
- Can coordinate fire with as many a hundred other turrets and SAM launchers.
- Possesses a repulsorlift drive that can lift the turret off the ground when it needs to move.
- Not a self-propelled weapon, requires a prime mover vehicle, but it can be man-handled into position by its crew or by large droids.
- Has its own stabilizing legs for uneven terrain.
- Its laser fire has an airburst function at a chosen altitude/distance.
- Entirely stationary turrets have a domed durasteel shell and can be linked to larger power cells if they're available.
- Cheap and easy to produce quickly and in large numbers.
- Powerful sensor suite for local air defense.
- Can place lots of fire into a small area quickly.
- Can be seamlessly integrated into a layered air defense network.
- Can engage ground targets if needed.
- Crew can manually operate the weapon from a command console in a safe location.
- Can operate without a crew if set to the right firing mode for short periods.
- Absolutely lethal against infantry or lightly-armored vehicles.
- Requires long-range sensors to effectively anticipate long-range threats outside its own sensors' range.
- Requires a crew to replace its power cells.
- Somewhat fragile weapons when taken under fire by SEAD munitions.
- Does not possess an integral shield.
- Useless against heavy armor.
- The power cell is volatile if hit by an explosive munition or heavy ballistic fire.
- Logistics vehicles are usually not far away from field-deployed units.
