- Electronic Warfare Suite: The Endurance-class is equipped with computers and equipment which enable it to engage in electronic warfare against enemy ships, such as jamming enemy communications and targeting systems
- Maintenance Bay: The Endurance-class features a large maintenance bay, allowing it to perform extensive repairs and maintenance and even assemble new starfighters between battles, if the components are available
- Maintenance Bay: The Endurance-class Fleet Carrier is outfitted with a large, well-equipped maintenance and engineering bay, allowing it to construct new starfighters between battles, effectively functioning as a mobile, albeit limited, shipyard
- Electronic Warfare Suite: Outfitted with an array of electronic warfare equipment, the Endurance-class can carry out electronic warfare operations, such as jamming communications and targeting systems, as well as defending against such measures by enemy ships
- Lacks Heavy Weapons: The main drawback of the Endurance-class is its almost complete lack of heavy armament, with the exception of four Heavy Ion Cannons, making it incapable of directly engaging large warships
- Vulnerable againt Boarding Parties: Originally a civilian freighter, the Endurance-class hull was not designed for military operations, lacking internal choke points and featuring corridors with exposed wiring and components, making it vulnerable against enemy boarding parties which can swiftly gain access to many of the ship's critical systems
In the wake of the fall of the First Order as a result of the Ssi-Ruuvi Imperium's invasion, the Unknown Regions planets woke up overnight to find themselves in a dramatically different world from what they knew. Having lost much of their economic and industrial power to the devastation of the war and without the fleets of the First Order to police their shipping lanes and protect them from hostile parties, the planets of the Unknown Regions suddenly found themselves alone and vulnerable in a very hostile environment, facing numerous threats from pirates, slavers, Ssi-Ruuvi incursions and numerous minor First Order warlords propping up throughout the region.
Practically overnight, numerous emergency rearmament and militarization projects cropped up throughout the Unknown Regions, the Endurance-class Fleet Carrier being the result of one of these programs. Built around a class of bulk freighters fairly common during the First Order's reign, the Endurance-class are massive ships quickly retrofitted for war. Their massive internal cargo bays have been repurposed as hangars for starfighters, while their hulls were refitted with heavy armor plating, military-grade shielding and new, more powerful reactors and engines.
The most notable feature of the Endurance-class, is its extensive maintenance and assembly bays, which allow it to perform extensive repairs on its starfighters and even assemble new ones between battles, if the supplies and components are available. Additionally, the Endurance-class is also equipped with an array of effective, if somewhat outdated, electronic warfare equipment, allowing it to deploy countermeasures against electronic jamming, as well as engage in offensive electronic warfare of its own.
The Endurance class is, effectively, a "poor man's" carrier, cheap and easy to produce due to the availability of civilian-variant analogues to retrofit, however this does come with some significant drawbacks. Lacking heavy armament, this ship class is incapable of engaging large warships on its own, relying on its large fighter complement to do the job. Additionally, as it was originally designed for civilian use, its internal layout is not optimized for warfare, lacking choke points to stave off boarding parties and the retrofitting process leaving many of its internal corridors with exposed wiring and components, which boarders can use to gain access to the ship's critical systems.
Fielded by numerous planets across the Unknown Regions due to their low cost and the short time in which they can be produced, Endurance-class Fleet Carriers are fairly common throughout this part of the galaxy. More recently, in the wake of the Eternal Empire's expansion within the region, a number of these have ended up on the private market as well, many of them likely originating within the navies of the various planets now taken over by the rising imperial power. Because of this, several non-state organizations have also gained access to these vessels and have begun to field them, such as the Eclipse Rebellion, an insurgent group that is opposing the Eternal Empire's expansion and the Agents of Chaos, an anarchist terrorist organization headquartered somewhere within the Unknown Regions.
