STANDARD FEATURES
ADVANCED SYSTEMS
STRENGTHS
  • Electromagnetic Resistance. The use of Sasori Nnth armor plating supplied superior electromagnetic defense, enabling the Equinox to excel in areas of extreme solar activity and other electromagnetic phenomenon, enabling it to conduct research in areas where other ships would be at greater risk. This had the additional benefit of providing additional protection against blaster-based weaponry, to include turbolaser fire.
  • Dedicated Science Vessel. Designed for planetary survey missions, the Equinox is a dedicated exploratory vessel with advanced shipboard sensors.
WEAKNESSES
  • Lightly armed.
  • Weak Against Kinetics. Sasori Nnth is brittle when exposed to high-yield kinetic strikes, making the hull plating vulnerable to missile or debris strikes.
  • Unique Electromagnetic Signature. Corellia Digital vessels use a unique Hoersch-Kessel ion drive design for their main propulsion. The resulting engine wash is faintly radioactive. This electromagnetic signature was distinguishable from background cosmic radiation and allowed the vessels to be tracked or detected.
  • Atmospheric to Interstellar Transition Delay. The dual-drive engines of the Consular-class automatically handle power distribution between the hyperdrive, ion drive, and repulsorlift generators in order to maximize performance depending on flight profile (atmospheric or interstellar). Because of this, the hyperdrive is disabled while the ship is flying on repulsorship (inside planetary gravity). When the repulsorlift is disabled, there is a delay before the hyperdrive comes on-line.
DESCRIPTION
The newest ship in the Corellia Digital fleet is also the first to be manufactured and assembled outside of the Corellian System, being constructed in orbit of Laekia at the shipyards there. A dedicated exploratory vessel, the Equinox is a 150 meter corvette built around a suite of advanced starship sensors. It was designed to operate with an optimal crew compliment of 25 to 50 personnel, and featured a number of research labs on board. Intended for more civilian or corporate application, such as scouting new mineral deposits for mining guilds, the Equinox was lightly armed. It's hull was coated in Sasori Nnth, which, though brittle, provided exceptional protection against electromagnetic radiation. Like many Corellia Digital vessels, the propulsion system used a "dual-drive" configuration that paired a CD 3.2 hyperdrive with a Hoersch-Kessel ion drive for sublight propulsion.

The design aesthetics paralleled the sweeping arches used in the Sentinel-class Heavy Explorer, causing some to view the Equinox as the "little brother" to the Corellian cruiser; however, the design of the Equinox was simplified and streamlined in order to maintain functionality and provide for planetfall capability -- something the larger and more elaborate Sentinel design did not permit.
