- Description:
Pilots are generally perceived to be rather elitist and snobbish, looking at themselves as if they are better than most of the regular corps within the ESDF, though in a sense this behavior can be somewhat attributed to their personal distance and their role in a whole, given that unlike their colleagues on the ground or aboard the larger ships, it is always said: "A pilot is the ondly soldier that dies alone."
COMBAT INFORMATION:
- Unit Size: Small A single wing [also designated as squadron will be between 6 and 12 members]
- Unit Availability: Common
- Unit Experience: Trained
- Combat Function:
The tactics of pilots can difer individually and situationally. A wing can have individuals preferring acrobatics or full on assaults, aggressive or defensive pilots, they can be brutish or cunning, but in the end a pilot wing's tactics have generally decided and planned either by a higher ranking boarded officer or ground stationed officer, who then relays commands to the squadron's individual commanders or entire wing-commanders. As such a squadron's tactics and tactical capacity is usually subservient to a commanding officer aboard a ship or within a base as part of the generall staff or operations command.
Strengths:
- Very decent training: Pilots of the ESDF all have gotten through the finest academies and pilot training the Eriadu System has to offer, with all of them acutely aware of their roles within their respective squadrons and beyond.
- Cohesive, structured unit: With a single commander for a squadron, who flies with the rest of the squadron, a squadron is a continuation of the unit designs of training schools, allowing for greater bonding and cooperation between pilots.
- Cooperation with droids: As part of the ESDF and by extension the Confederacy of Independant Systems, it's almost to be expected of members of squadrons like these to have adequate knowledge and experience on cooperation with unmanned vessels.
- Only good for one thing: Pilots are generally only good for piloting, though they have been given basic combat training and have extensive fire arms training and have been schooled in martial arts, they pale in comparison to other units in those fields.
- Ostracized: Both due to their own snobbish behavior and because of the distantiation towards other divisions, pilots are commonly not well liked by regular combat units within the ESDF and usually don't mesh well with them.
The Pilot squadrons of the ESDF are by default the remainders of the various security groups and the original planetary defense and security forces of the Eriadu system meshed together into a single cohesive branch within the ESDF. Around 858 ABY, the plans for the ESDF were being drawn up when the entire system was being reorganized after its transition within the Confederacy of Independent Systems, during the past two years, there have been increased training facilities within the system to accomodate more students into the line of pilot training. Though there is also the growing use of droid starfighters, the Viceroyalty of Eriadu decided not to disregard the talents of sentient pilots and thus created the pilot branch to deviate from the norm within the confederacy.
