Esteban was born in the small village of Changretta on Epica. The son of a miner, Esteban's life was relatively simple. He got into mischief as any boy does as they grow older. Esteban was still in his teens when his father hurt his back and couldn't work any more.
Esteban would spend his youth hopping from job to job. Working one mine and then the next until ending up on Muunilinst, a world rumored to have the richest mines in the galaxy. When Esteban arrived in Muunilinst he would find much of the world and its mines under the control of a noble family. This family would change his life.
It was not much later that Esteban found himself entering and winning both the melee and energy-bow competition as part of a tourney held by the noble family. At that night's feast he was sat at the champions table next to Tycho Amnen, the winner of the tourney's joust and patriarch of the noble family.
Esteban had never eaten so good or felt so important. After much food and wine, Tycho Amnen and his son the Lord of House Amnen offered Esteban that champion's seat, permanently, asking him to become a Justicar for the family.
Esteban agreed without hesitation.
