STRENGTHS
- Speed Demon: The Eta Angel is an exceptionally quick starfighter to begin with, but it can become even faster when power is diverted from its shielding systems.
- Trickster: The Eta Angel has the same sensor jamming device found on the A-wing, which makes targeting the craft difficult at close ranges and can potentially jam enemy communications.
- Weak Firepower: The Eta Angel is fairly lightly armed, even having less firepower than the A-wing which originally inspired it.
- Conditional Defense: The Eta Angel can only reach its highest speed when power is being shunted from its burner deflector shield generator, which makes the craft fairly thin-skinned compared to most starfighters.
The Eta Angel is one of the CorelliSpace's latest designs, and really the first combat starship product made by the company that it's entirely a direct copy of a legacy design or an ugly. Nonetheless, it fairly clearly builds off of the Eta-2 Actis Light Interceptor made famous in the Clone Wars. Conceptually, however, it is fairly clearly inspired by the even more famous A-wing, using exceptionally powerful sublight ion drives to take the craft up to high speeds and pairing it with a reasonably powerful sensor jammer and light weaponry. While ostensibly designed as fast interceptor for planetary defense forces and corporate fleets, the Eta Angel really shines as a raiding craft, where its high speed and ability to wreck chaos with its sensor jammer make it ideal for picking off or disabling small starships. Unsurprisingly, this has made it a fairly popular ships among the pirates and other less than savory elements that CorelliSpace secretly sells to in bulk in the Outer Rim. There, the Eta Angel competes against shadowport copies of the venerable A-wing. While slightly less powerful in armament than those craft, the Eta Angel is considered to be a much more reliable craft with a longer operational range and the benefit of an astromech droid. Unfortunately, this also makes the craft cost slightly more than such copies, and the average pirate will tell you its a wash. However, the craft has gain some notoriety along the Triellius Trade Route, where a group of pirates has been consistently stalking spice-laden freighters owned by Hutt enterprises.
