- Combat Function:
- Tactics & Deployment: The Eternal Phalanx is a unit type for pure force concentration, putting overwhelming firepower and resilience to the field to simply annihilate any conventional resistance. A Legion will generally deploy into a warzone to either end a stalemate together with the already deployed units, performing either speartip tactics or hammer & anvil, embracing the Storm War doctrine.
- Training: The base training for the Phalanx is the Ultranaut training regime of at least two years in terribly demanding conditions, but that is not remotely enough to become a Phalangite. They are put to training daily, with little time to rest or any time for themselves at all. They are drilled in close quarters, melee, handling of heavy weapons, artillery, boarding actions and can basically perform everything between heavy infantry or grenadier operations and SpecOps deployments, the latter without major stealth involved.
- Recruitment: Recruits for the Phalanx are selected from the most battle hardened Ultranauts and the most promising cadets for the Eternal Army. They are put through a series of extreme challenges, attacking their instincts, willpower and demanding extreme display of courage and skill. If surviving these harsh tests and trials, the future phalangites are put to the surgeons tables, receiving bio and gene engineering to extremely boost survivability, physical strength and indoctrination.
- Years of Service: At least 7 years or five campaigns.
- Citizenship: Full Citizenship
- Goals: Serve. Triumph.
- Force Abilities (Force User Units Only): N/A
- As Long As We Stand: The Phalanx will die standing and fighting, there is no retreat from a theater except ordered to and then they will make it a fighting retreat. The possibility to overpower them is nigh impossible, their will to resistant and triumph is eternal.
- Technological Edge: With their high-end equipment the Phalangites would be supported in any way possible beyond ordinary infantry already, but with their bio and cybernetical enhancements, they are truly marvels of military and biological engineering, making so much more than mere mortals.
- Tactical: Despite their super-heavy infantry status, the Phalangites are extremely versatile to deploy, both in regards to environment and mission parameters.
- Ironclad: The Phalangites are very heavily armed and armored, making them more of a walking tank than just heavy infantry.
- Experience Cannot Be Paid For: Taking only the most skilled and experienced candidates from the Eternal Army, the supply of recruits is very low.
- Recruitment And Enhancement: Time can of essence to get replenishments, but the time for selection, trials and then the enhancement process is immense and therefore new troops come only slowly.
- Expensive: The improvement process, the equipment and the maintenance of these troops is very expensive.
- Stealth: The Phalangites are not made to walk silently or conceal themselves in conjunction with the terrain.
The Ultranaut Corps had slowly built up a reputation for discipline and efficiency, especially during the Battle of Eshan they truly showed what they are capable of accomplishing, maintaining their unit cohesion even under the most dire of circumstances, proving themselves the equals of some of the most respected and known combat units in the history of the galaxy.
As the Eternal Empire claimed one of the great power spots on the grand map of the galaxy, the Ultranaut Corps grew with it and became even more famous for its rigid discipline and cold-blooded professionalism.
This aspect was recognised and selected as basis for the, at the time, High Justice for the new Eternal Empire to form a combat unit in his own spirit and making. Picking the most capable of Ultranauts, he put them through a program which would also serve as basis for the Rim-Guard Order paladins later on. Enhancing the troops with cybernetics and gene-engineering, making them bigger, stronger, more enduring and more resilient to all forms of warfare and environment.
Running under the designation of Project: Phalanx it was a well coordinated and funded program only known to the high command itself. The name was chosen as a distraction due to the personal flagship of Sigismund bearing the same name, indicating a connection to that, rather than a new Eternal Army unit.
