Expansion of horizons

Corey's OOC

And where were the spiders
Marek Starchaser had formally and fibally moved his office and headquarters to Lianna for Bright Star. Safe and sound in the Tion Sector. It was nice to overlook Rio Vivo, his little kingdom. And here he was, lookin over the paper. If he could expand the company.

And that was the idea. He had tried mining to no success and now he wanted to be in part of that game. At least exploration. And logging. Maybe clean up hyper lanes and find a new one?

Opening up his com link he went a brief message to one [member="Selka Ventus"], a contact he had in Silk. The first message was simple. "Business proposal. Looking to expand Bright Star's horizons. -Marek."

Hopefully she remembered him being the same man from the Techno Union.

A faint smile characterized Selka's receipt of the Starchaser message. She took a long look around the room -- heavily plated with nullification resin, and dominated by a runeworked leather sphere as tall as she was -- then keyed in a response via the darknet holoconnection she used for communications in distant climes. And this mostly-nameless planet was as distant as they came.

No longer CEO but I'm still on the board. I'll see what I can do. Meet me at the Nexus. Selka.

The Tion Hegemony Trade Nexus, near the Tion Cluster and the Perlemian Trade Route, was a massive spherical station. Silk owned and operated ten percent of it, and if she remembered right, Bright Star had properties there as well.

Simple enough. Marek nodded when he received the message. Nexus, perfect. He'd make it there in no time. Taking the Flow would make it easier. Not on Technate business, on a bit more of a classy move. So the nicer should would be what he'd take. Looking at the terminal for a second, he figured it was about time to go.

Typing the message Meet you at your office. He sent it off before heading down to his ship.

The Flow was already prepped, always was, as soon as it hit the tarmac. And being home in Lianna was nice. Stepping aboard the ship, he took off and made his way for the Nexus, probably one of his favorite places in the galaxy.

A stealth ship conveyed her from the Kelsier system to various praedia, and thence to proprietary barely-charted hyperlanes. From Levantine free space, she made her way coreward to the Tion Cluster, then to the Tionese Trade Nexus. She maintained a small office and quarters on the Nexus, and was waiting there for Marek Starcgaser in due course. 'There' being the office.

He made his way up to the office after a boring and meditative trip to the Nexus. He was doing that a lot on his trips. Meditating. Or reading. Made it easier to pass the time really. Not taking the time to swing by the Bright Star offices on the Presidium he made his way for the Silk office.

After being greeted by the receptionist, the CEO entered the office. "Thanks for seeing me. "

Selka kept a bland office; always had, even though her paycheck as a board member and minor shareholder merited a much nicer suite. To the perceptive, the office would speak of a bland and mousy personality, not unlike the bland and mousy attire of the woman who sat alone behind a brownish desk. To the very perceptive, the office would come across as sterilized, its potted flowers -- an arc-stemmed pseudo-tulip, a blackish-purple lotus blossom -- and unremarkable fixtures the product of a careful removal of anything that might give insight into the mind.

To the perceptive and properly educated, the first potted plant would be a Dromund Kaas dart flower, the second a Murakami orchid. Both sentient or nearly so, both deadly in their way. They sat behind Selka's right and left shoulders, on a shelf.

She rose and extended her hand as he entered the office. "Mister Starchaster, it's my pleasure. What can I do for Bright Star?"

Stepping into the office of the best contact he had in Silk, Marek gave a smile as [member="Selka Ventus"] rose to her feet. Taking her hand he shook it while taking in the blan room and the two plants. Unique, not that he could place them, but also out of sorts for the empty room.

Not that he thought anything less of Selka, she had a head on her shoulders, and as such, Marek wanted to get to know her a bit more. Taking the seat on the other side of the desk, Marek was sitting not too rigidly, but not with his feet up on Selka’s desk.

“I’ve got a need for a handful of Niathals, and perhaps pilots for half of them? Looking to scout the lanes my liners use, and perhaps start finding new trails to blaze.” And y’know, sell the data to Silk, or whoever in Tion would be able to use it.

Not outside of Tion.

Heil.

"Silk can provide that easily enough, Marek -- may I call you Marek? But you could have that from any of our distributors. You could have outsourced." Selka took her seat and leaned forward, resting her elbows on the desk. "But instead you came to a member of the board of directors, and that makes me think you have something more substantial in mind than a handful of shuttles."

Her eyes flicked over him once, and she leaned back, crossing her ankles.

"Enlighten me."

Could she call him Marek? He assumed so, they were dealing with each other enough that it could work. And well, Marek wouldn’t mind more of Selka’s company, not that he’d voice it to her. She… she was determined. He smiled at her when she called him out on his thought process.

“Well, I figure keep it within Tion. I’d like to get a team trailblazing our current spacelanes, and maybe, with Silk tech, moving to hunt a new space lane down. For cruise lines and shipping. Using the Niathal’s we’d be able to store data, and I’d be willing to give a copy of all the data to your, or Silk… for resource collection, and exploration costs.” Seemed like the best bet. All he’d need was to get into the right places.

“If you accept this proposal, would it be possible to get the ships with Silk registries? I feel you are more welcome around the galaxy, for the prestige of the company, than the Bright Star group.” Yet. "Additionally, I'd like to rally a variety of scientists and specific scientists into a join effort?"

An exploration corps.

"I'm not in a position to make those decisions, not anymore." She shrugged against the back of her chair, terentatek leather. "But if you've got a writeup, which I'm sure you do, I can take it to the board and make the recommendation. That's straightforward enough.

"So the thought is..." She took a moment. "Marek, the bones of your proposal make sense to me, they fit the market, they fit the niche. Silk is always looking for what you're offering -- a few more ships to fill the void of Jorus Merrill."

Corey's OOC

And where were the spiders
Of course he had a write up. Nodding, he hit the datapad a few times before transmitting the proposal to [member="Selka Ventus"]'s personal datapad. "There is the proposal, pretty simple. A handful of ships, probably no more than a dozen, running our lanes, cleaning the debris to make it better for our liners, connecting worlds for cruises... And a few for trailblazing. Not really protection, but having the weapons makes sense to me. At least to keep the mission alive."

"And this is why I come to you, Miss Ventus." He nodded. Hearing the name of Jorus, that was something. Before Marek took the Techno Union, he was merely an explorer, and in the same vein as a Starchaser from before the Order 66. A member of the then Jedi ExplorCorps who joined the ranks of Dark Jedi trained by an Imperial Sith. That was what his holocron taught him about his family. Simple enough. "Can't ever hurt, right?"
