HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Yet another lifeform broken and remade by Helix's nanogene functions, the Helslug is a hideous splice of Hutt and Purrgil. Standing several times the height of an average humanoid male, these creatures are as lazy as they are irascible, and as irascible as they are hungry.

Like their Hutt forbears, Helslugs are hermaphroditic, and capable of reproducing without a mate, though it is rare for them to do so. They are far more concerned with eating. An adult Helslug can devour several tons of meat a day, and they will shun any meal that is not still alive and struggling. Given their slow movement speed, it is common for Helix staff to feed them within an enclosed space, most commonly utilizing unfortunate prisoners of war.

Despite the high cost of keeping one in captivity, these beasts are extremely useful to Helix Solutions, as they serve a function similar to the Helwolf, but far more powerful. An adult Helslug is capable of transporting even something so massive as a starship (along with any passengers) via its natural ability to phase tunnel. What's more, this ability is not restricted to the observed universe. The Helslug is capable of jumping to Otherspace, as well as many other dimensions.

This ability is highly stable, as Helix's previous stint in Otherspace has prompted him to prioritize safety and reliability over speed. As such, the Helslug pays for its reliability with haste, taking several minutes to jump itself and any passengers.

Given their value, these creatures are usually kept under heavy guard and spoiled rotten, growing to enormously bloated sizes in their lairs aboard Helix vessels. Still, they are on rare occasions taken out into the field when a Helwolf will not do. If threatened, the beast uses its massive bulk and wide jaws to defend itself, happily swallowing most antagonists whole and belching out their bones later. That said, the Helslug is a slow-moving and large target, and must be capably defended if it is to perform its duties.
