OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
The YKZ, more commonly known as the "Pygmy Ysalamiri" to Helix staff, is an artificial strain of the reptilian Ysalamiri life form native to Myrkr. During a mission on the planet some time ago, a Helix task force was assigned the duty of capturing as many Ysalamiri as possible, and were successful.
The beasts were taken back to the fleet, where a large colony had been prepared for them. Using nutrient harnesses to keep them alive, they were kept in captivity for the purposes of military research into their unique Force-repelling abilities.
All attempts to transfer or create the ability artificially met with failure, so attention turned to the reptiles themselves. Using a combination of selective breeding for small size, and outright genetic tampering, the YKZ strain was soon created, and was deemed a success.
Measuring a few centimeters long and fitting comfortably into the palm of most humanoid hands, the YKZ was bred for docility and a pleasant, agreeable demeanor. They liked affection, and some Helix personnel or even droids took to becoming attached to them.
They were, other than their size, superficially identical to their naturally-evolved forbears, being mostly sedentary feeders. Helix, however, took the liberty of expanding the animals' capabilities. YKZ Ysalamiri were normally fed via nutrient harnesses, to which they usually remained attached permanently. However, they could also attach to many forms of humanoid life, and draw nutrients from their bloodstream. Typically, the amount of blood taken per day wasn't enough that the host would feel any effects whatsoever, and over time the reptile would become permanently enjoined to their host's circulatory system.
Most notably, and most importantly for Helix Solutions, the animals retained their forbears' ability to repel the force, though unfortunately in a rather small radius, approximately two meters down from their predecessors' ten. This unfortunate side effect was nonetheless deemed an acceptable compromise for their other virtues, and more were greenlit. Under normal circumstances, their Force-repelling bubble (like that of normal Ysalamiri) combines with that of other individuals nearby, expanding the radius. As such, they are usually used in pairs or small groups for military purposes.
The animals, sadly, are unsuitable for battlefield conditions when unprotected, as they are small, frail, and capable of being killed with bare hands, to say nothing of actual weapons. Each, as well, represents a significant investment of credits and time, and as such relatively few of these reptiles exist. They are released only on very specific missions, with very specific troops trained to defend them with their lives.
- Intent: To create a smaller Ysalamiri species for Helix's use.

- Name: Pygmy Ysalamiri
- Designation: Non-sentient
- Origins: Myrkr (original stock) Helix Solutions (miniature strain)
- Average Lifespan: 2-4 years
- Estimated Population: Rare
- Description: A miniature, semi-parasitic Ysalamiri strain, made for military research purposes.
- Breathes: Type 1 Breathable
- Average Height of Adults: 2-3cm
- Average Length of Adults: 10-12cm
- Skin color: Orange, yellow.
- Hair color: N/A
- Distinctions: Much smaller than normal Ysalamiri.
- Races: None
- Force Sensitivity: Non-Sensitive
- Force-Blockers: The pygmy strain retains its natural cousins' ability to repel the Force within a limited radius, though given their size the radius is commensurately smaller and weaker.
- Expanded Diet: The pygmy strain is parasitic, able to attach to and receive nutrients from sentient life as normal Ysalamiri do from trees. It is also capable of feeding directly from nutrient harnesses.
- Altered Disposition: The YKZ strain is modified for docility and laziness, and seldom moves once attached, spending much of its time asleep.
- Frail: The pygmy strain is far smaller than normal Ysalamiri, and if struck by virtually any sort of weapon will be immediately slain.
- Rare: Created as they are under tight military guard, the pygmies are few in number, and none exist under wild conditions.
- Diet: Herbivore, Sanguivore
- Communication: Squeaks, chirps.
- Technology level: None
- Religion/Beliefs: None
- General behavior: The YKZ is, as a rule, even more sedentary than normal Ysalamiri. They spend much time asleep, passively siphoning resources from a living host or nutrient frames designed for their use. When awake, they are generally friendly and docile, responding well to being handled.
