OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
The KLK was originally intended as a means to staff low-priority positions that could nonetheless not be automated. It wasn't long before it was re-appraised with an eye toward military applications.
The device resembles a traditional hologram emitter, albeit a fairly large one around the size of a human skull. What sets it apart is the holograms themselves. Using solid-state hologram technology, the KLK is capable of creating moving, thinking holographic images capable of interacting with physical objects, and even functioning similarly to their physical counterparts.
The wartime uses are obvious: so long as the emitter remains intact, it can create a number of living holograms. Each is fully capable of fighting roughly as well as a solid metal droid, with any that fall being quickly replaced.
Typically, the holo-soldiers physically resemble (and are statwise identical to) B1H battle droids, with the obvious exception of their flickering blue appearance. Designs capable of projecting other holo-droids are under construction, but at present the machine is very much still in the early stages.
The design, however, possesses some limitations that keep these holo-soldiers from fully replacing their physical metal counterparts. Each emitter can only maintain a certain number of holo-droids at one time, depending on the power source available to it. Backpack-carried portable versions can only be expected to provide half a dozen or so units, while larger vehicle-carried versions can project an entire platoon. Versions hooked up to stationary power grids can create a small army of soldiers, capable of staffing and guarding an outpost or camp.
Furthermore, the holo-droids are dependent on their emitters to exist. Should an emitter be destroyed (easily achieved with a blaster shot or even a hard physical strike) all units it is currently projecting will vanish. Additionally, should any of these units (or projectiles fired by them) leave the range of the projector (approximately 300 meters at best), they will similarly vanish. As such, the KLK is best used for short-ranged, defensive confrontations, but in clever hands the device can make all the difference in an offensive.
- Intent: To create a military solid-state hologram projector
- Canon Link: Solid-State Hologram
- Permissions: N/A
- Primary Source: Wookiepedia, Solid-State Hologram
- Manufacturer: Helix Solutions
- Affiliation: Helix Solutions
- Market Status: Closed-Market
- Model: KLK Photonic Army
- Modularity: No
- Production: Limited
- Material: Solid hologram projector components
- Projects a varying number of holographic soldiers.
- Army of Light: The units created by the central projector are made of quasi-solid condensed photons, and can be replenished easily by the central bulb if disrupted, until it is destroyed or runs out of power.
- Photonic Flesh: The units are capable of operating and firing holographic versions of their typical armaments, to similar effect.
- The Eye: The hologram soldiers are emitted from a central projector bulb, which if destroyed will immediately destroy all hologram soldiers it had created. Additionally, projected soldiers cannot wander too far from their attached bulb, nor fire their weapons outside its radius of projection. Any soldiers or projectiles that travel outside this radius cease to exist.
