SPECIAL FEATURES

[*]Backpack

Strengths:
  • Blast Vest: The use of shell spider silk in the torso shell allows the jacket to function as a blast vest, deflecting blaster fire and vibroblade strikes. As Jedi Youngling training often comprised remote droids using low-powered blasters against the younglings, this is a practical measure to ensure no incidental or accidental harm. It is also useful in expeditionary work, where the younglings may encounter bounty hunters or other dangers beyond the temple.
  • Durable Construction: The core of the jacket functions like a light armored blast vest, while the use of duranex in the trousers and spacer's leather in the sleeves extends the wear of the clothing even with frequent use. It's not high fashion, nor is it fine fabric, but it doesn't tear easily and holds up to even.
  • Water Resistant: The trousers and jacket are both treated for water resistance, allowing them to retain their thermal retention properties in incremental weather or very humid environments.
  • Versatile Design: The pieces of the kit can be worn in a variety of ways to suit the needed environment, including the trousers being convertible into utility shorts.
Weaknesses:
  • Low Elemental Protection: This suit is designed for all weather in temperate climates. It is not designed for prolonged exposure in desert or arctic conditions. The overall design lacks sufficient thermal retention to provide adequate protection under extremes of cold. The suit is flame retardant, but lacks adequate thermal protection to shield the wearer from extremes of heat.
  • Limited Area of Protection: The jacket provides most of its coverage to the body core. The extremities have minimal protection outside the blast vest.
  • No Lightsaber Protection or Resistance.
  • No Sonic, Ion, or EMP Protection.
  • Very Low Ballistic/Kinetic Resistance. The material of the jacket provided very little resistance or protection against slugthrowers, with the spacer's leather slightly more resilient than the body core.
  • No Head Protection: No enclosed helmet or air supply means this suit provides no respiratory support or head protection in case of accident or attack. In the case of attack, if you have someone taking head shots at younglings, you probably have other problems that adults (or [member="Jorus Merrell"] are better suited to deal with.
DESCRIPTION
The ExplorCorps Youngling Field Kit was the standard load-out of gear worn by Jedi Younglings of the New Jedi Order in 851 ABY. It featured a black and orange varsity-style jacket, with the orange closely matching that of the flightsuits of Alliance pilots. The bright color also helped to identify and locate the younglings in the field. The firebird symbol of the Rebel Alliance featured prominently on the chest and back, with the words "Galactic Alliance" and "For Freedom" encircling the back graphic in Aurabesh script. The trousers were made of durable duranex, with double layering in the knees to prevent wear at the joint. The trousers were convertible, with a zip-lining above the knee that allowed the lower portion of the pants leg to be removed so that the upper portion could be worn as a utility short pant in warm or tropical weather. The load-out included an over-the-ears music player that allowed the youngling to listen to music or play gamepads without disturbing the others around them.
