The overarching war was over.

But elements still remained, scattered all over Imperial space. Clean up was left in the charge of the Inquisitors - it was their expertise, after all. Luckily they had their pick of the crop for support.

As she was a Knight tied to the 501st, Amena had the pick of the best. She'd gotten Saul Vandron Saul Vandron 's trust and respect a long time ago. His soldiers were her soldiers. So when she had her directive, the Company that had served alongside her the most, was commissioned along with another Knight.

The Viper didn't know much about the man, other than the fact that he was relatively new but that he could get things done. Most of the Knights that she usually would have used were already spread thin throughout the Empire. So here was to hoping that this Jahordel guy was actually as capable as his file said.

The Kandaran stood waiting for him at the ship that would take them to New Alderaan. Her men were already settled within, getting their briefing from their Commander. Catching sight of the approaching Knight, she lifted a brow.
"Tardiness is unacceptable, Knight. Follow me. I'll brief you on the bridge." she said curtly as she turned and walked up the ramp.

His response to her reception would tell her she needed to know about him.

Victory had been sweet, yet expected. He wouldn't have pledged his services to an organization lacking the power and purpose required to succeed. He had seen the Empire's dominance as inevitable even before the war. Varon had long sought to bring sustainable and ordered structure to the galaxy, yet hadn't the means to do so. Yet, the New Imperial Order did. Nor were they shy about achieving these goals, resorting to whatever means were needed to achieve what must be done. He was familiar with the methods of the Empire, though he couldn't call himself an ardent supporter of the brutality they wielded. It had been the cause of hesitancy, and the reason he hadn't enlisted sooner. He hadn't believed that a proper system shouldn't require their brand of it.

But the iron glove gets results. Ever the pragmatist, Varon understood that established change required consequences, and consequences required might. He felt that neither the Sith nor the Jedi truly understood. The Jedi were misguided and out of touch optimists, where the Sith saw violence as a hobby, rather than a tool. He'd no use for philosophy not grounded in reality.

He also didn't care much for the layout of this place. What should have been an early arrival had been delayed longer than he cared for, with the new Imperial Knight inadvertently taking unwanted detours on his route.

Amema didn't care for it either, and was rightfully indignant. Which was good. He hadn't enlisted to doddle around. Nothing could be achieved without discipline.

"Agreed. You'll not need to tolerate it again."
Varon replied. He made no apology of it. Apologies, like excuses, had no place here.

"At once. I'm right behind you." He added, wasting no time in following her lead. Better to be quick about it, when they'd already begun late.

"Agreed. You'll not need to tolerate it again."

The corner of Amena's mouth pulled into a small semblance of a smile at his words.
"Good answer." she said as she led the way to the ship's bridge.

"Now, we are being tasked with clean up." she started. "The Tion cluster suffered greatly under Alliance incursions. There's still some influence on planets like New Alderaan, which is where we're heading now. It's our job to root out any SIA and Jedi elements. I doubt we'll find any GADF troops. They'll probably operate through the Underground, influencing people against the Empire subtly. We can't have that. So we rip them out root and stem." She turned to face him, her dark eyes hard. "The men already know so I'm telling you - no quarter." Her voice was toneless. It had been too many years since she had been a Jedi. To give the order of no quarter was like telling someone the tea tasted bland.

Her eyes then narrowed slightly at him.
"I need to know right now - do you understand what that order means and would you be able to execute it flawlessly? If a civilian resists you, would you be able to cut them down?" Not only did she not have time for weak people, but if he could not, then she would have to put a word in to Grand Moff Ignacious Korvan Ignacious Korvan of possible treason.

There was no room for error.

Varon followed behind as Amena led the way, listening intently to her report. Their enemy had been bested, but not eradicated, and this was the matter they were left to handle. He didn't doubt there were plenty of elements working in the shadows. Not all were so accepting of imperial rule, but all understood the outcome of any attempt to show force against them. Those who didn't had perished publicly as an example. May those who witnessed be wiser for it.

It was hardly a passing statement she made. Amena appeared clearly concerned with whether Varon would be up to the task required of him. A fair concern, given how new he was. She knew as little of him as he knew of her, and concerns were sensible yet needless to have. He knew what duties he had been brought along to perform, and carried no qualms about the use of violence to achieve their objective.

"Should they resist, there can be no other option. They ought know better. They can't be left with the notion that resistance could get them anywhere." Varon replied, thought he remained aware that a verbal answer was one matter. Actions spoke far louder than words, and this task would serve as both a mop-up operation, and a proof of intention.

"What must be done cannot be restrained." Varon added, with a stoic look back to Amena.

Well his answer was sufficient.

Perhaps not as stalwart as she had become working alongside Saul Vandron Saul Vandron , but it was a good enough reply to not raise red flags.
"Very good." she said as she turned to face the viewport. They have already entered hyperspace. "It will be a while before we reach our destination. You are welcome to rest or meditate until we do. These journeys are always so time-consuming." she said, giving him the option should he wish to take his leave. He seemed efficient enough and his answers were solid enough. So hopefully they would be able to make short work cleaning up New Alderaan.

The shuttle that deposited them, was unmarked. The entire contingent of Troopers would remain on the ship, allowing the Knights to first scope out what they could before getting their orders.

Amena, wrapped in an inconspicuous cloak so that her Inquisitorial armour wouldn't stand out, started moving into the city of New Aldera slowly, speaking to Varon as she did so.
"Lets start putting out feelers with the Force and keep our ears on the ground for anything that seems out of ordinary. I think the quickest way to start, is at a bar. People have loose tongues when drink is involved." she said. The trick was just to not raise alarm. Not yet. Figure out where the rats are first before starting extermination.

And the Jedi and Alliance always left a trail that could be followed. They were incapable of staying off the radar for long. It should be easy to get on the spoor if the two Knights put their minds to it.
"If anyone asks, we are just stopping over on our way to Centares." she added.

Always have a cover story.

Varon nodded and prepared to settle in for the long trip. Her response was stoic, and he couldn't quite tell how she'd regarded him, though she didn't seem to disapprove. If she had, he didn't doubt she'd be clear about expressing it. The empire had neither room for weakness nor disloyalty. It would be unbecoming for an Imperial Knight to withhold such reservations – Varon would not hold his, should the time come. But that time wasn't now. This mission carried an additional purpose that was far from lost on him. First impressions counted for much, and this mission would establish how he was viewed. It behooved him to ensure such a view was favourable.

"Very well. I'll be in my quarters." Varon responded, before departing

After a while, they had arrived at their destination and touched down on the surface. Varon was out the door the moment the ship fell still, knowing he'd be among the first to depart and scout. A simple black shawl was thrown over his armour, dull enough to blend in and long enough to cover identifiable insignia.

"Sounds like a solid plan. Might be able to eavesdrop on something useful." He replied, walking in lockstep with Amena at a leisurely pace. Though eager to get any information he could, he knew they could not be in a hurry. To be so conspicuous would risk compromising the mission.

"Just grabbing drinks before we continue on our way. Gotcha." He responded, eyes on the city ahead that slowly drew nearer. A suitable simple alibi like that was ideal. The simplest lies were the best, after all.
