Factory Discussions

In the past there have been a few instances where information being discussed by factory judges and factory staff has been leaked to the general public. This is in no way accusatory or reprimanding, only to make a written down notice that such is not acceptable or tolerated in the factory and may result in disciplinary action up to and potentially including the termination of any factory judge involved.

  • Any factory judge who discusses information currently being discussed in the factory judge discussion forum, and/or the factory chat, to members of the board are liable to be subject to disciplinary action up to and potentially including termination.

Obviously a moment may arise where information isn't intentionally spread, and every situation like this which arises will be dealt case-by-case to ensure that everyone is treated fairly and that factory standards of conduct are being followed. All judges and representatives of the factory are expected to follow this rule, please sign off here with a reply to signify that you agree and will adhere to this standard.

I am also aware this wasn't written in black and white prior, this is in an attempt to prevent any future instance of this issue occurring. [member="Spencer Varanin"] may add this to the factory judge code of conduct in the future as she sees fit.

tl;dr: Please post that you understand and will adhere to the above-mentioned standard.

Hard lines like this are a serious mistake. Consulting subject matter experts has saved basically every judge from making dumb mistakes, and if you're not consulting with people who know their stuff, you're doing it wrong. If [member="Spencer Varanin"] signs off on this, I'll consent.

[member="Jorus Merrill"], if I understand this correctly, this is more aimed at discussing OOC issues, such as revealing upcoming rules or other tidbits of information to give certain people an advantage IC or OOC.

I think it's expected at times to consult people outside of the FJ team on how a submission would work (like Ijaat with blacksmithing, etc).

With that understanding, I am in agreement with and will adhere to this standard.

I'm looking this over and will be rewriting it while I fly today. But for talking about a sub to a member and "leaking" information is not something I would terminate you over unless things that were being discussed for change and basically copied into a chat log - THEN causing confusion and chaos in the forums because people were expecting a change and it didn't happen.

Then I'd hang you by your toes. But saying something like "dude you need to do this dev to help your sub, I think the judge might hit you on it." I don't see as "leaking" information.

We are not the pentagon :l

Pretty much that.

People tend to take the factory too seriously. If things get leaked out early or stuff is set out without the final say, it ends up causing waves.

The difference is if it's intentional or not. Just try one best to just not discuss backshop talk so the little guys don't panic.

As stated above, it is more along the lines of discussing what may become restricted materials and so on, rather than minor things. For example, we were having a discussion of whether or not Ysalamir and/or Yuuzhan Vong stuff should be restricted and someone essentially copy-pasted the conversation, which was not going to happen anyways, to some chat group and subs including them got pulled by their submitters and someone made a debacle in the factory discussion board.

Normal stuff, like Spencer mentioned, involving acceptable development and whatnot is totally fine. But spreading around information about proposed rule changes, restricted materials, etc, is not okay.

Keep in mind I hadn't made this stance up myself, I'm just writing it down because I realized it wasn't actually written down when it happened the last time.

IM cool with this. I generally tell people now I can not discuss factory in skype. with a few exceptions. I have helped people in the site in messages with what might be expected as far as development went. I always give them the "If I was judging it" not stating that my opinion was factory standard.

Isn't the problem of Friend A letting Friend B know what people think within our Factory Chat? Telling people our private discussions in order to get things by? Perhaps slide by the rules, little quirks that we look for, etc?

Essentially, ways to one up? I thought that this was about that more so than "Let me ask a Judge a question."

It has to do with subject matter that is expected to remain in the factory, such as discussing rule change proposals, restricted materials stuff, and so on. Again I'll cite the Ysalamir discussion, which blew up even though we weren't going to actually do it, because someone told a board member that we were talking about restricting it and pasted whole posts & conversations from within the factory. A huge issue came up because of it.

Anything regarding rule changes etc. Don't spread the word until its going to be finalized etc. Its literally common sense, but if I seriously need to add it to the FJ stuff then I will, but you guys are all bright enough to know what should be discussed outside of factory and what shouldn't.
