Factory Update January 2021
Ship limits
To help streamline and make the factory easier to use I am planning on expanding the table of ship production and use to allow people more of the options that they have been asking for and expanding the types of submissions that can be made. The new table is as below:
What Can Be Produced and Fielded | |||||
Organization Type | Civilian Ships | Civilian Stations | Combat Ships | Military Stations | Fleet Size |
Individuals | 1000m | 1000m | 500m | 500m | N/A |
Companies and Minor Factions | Mass: 3km Limited: 5km Unique: 10km | Mass: 3km Limited: 5km Semi-Unique: 10km Unique: 80km | Mass: 2km Limited: 3km Semi-Unique: 4km Unique: 5km | Mass: 2km Limited: 3km Semi-Unique: 4km Unique: 5km | Within Reason |
Major Factions | Mass: 5km Limited: 7.5km Unique: 10km | Mass: 5km Limited: 7.5km Semi-Unique: 10km Unique: 80km | Mass: 2km Limited: 5km Semi-Unique: 7km (Dreadnought) Unique: 10km (SSD) | Mass: 2km Limited: 5km Semi-Unique: 7km (Dreadnought) Unique: 10km (SSD) | No Stipulation |
The options have been expanded to include semi-unique submissions with the addition of semi-unique categories.
With the introduction of new ship sizes I also wanted to clarify how the ship table works. Each size is upto and including. For example:
A company chooses to produce two ships, a 1.4km ship and a 2.4 km ship. The 1.4km ship may be created at mass production, however, the 2.4km ship must be produced at limited. Although it is closer to 2km than 3km every submission over 2km, even if just by a meter, falls into the 3km rule.
Super Star Destroyers
Following on from the above changes to ship production values, we will be making some changes to the Super Star Destroyers as well as follows:
- Introduction of Dreadnoughts:
When a faction completes 3 Dominions within a month, instead of turning in their dominions to create a single SSD, they may instead turn them in to create 3 7km long ships instead. These ships will be built based on the SSD template and must balance according to the template.
- Improvement of Super Star Destroyer
With the creation of the new dreadnoughts, and the galaxy’s increasing experience at creating Super Star Destroyers, all unique 10km Super Star Destroyers may now utilise an extra point in their balancing in order to reflect their position as the most powerful ships on Chaos. This change will be grandfathered in, and all current SSDs may be adjusted to reflect it.
Single Ship Hangars
This has long been something that has been an unofficial situation, however many smaller craft, such as the Jade Shadow, had space on board for a single fighter to be stored and deployed. As such, the frigate and corvette templates will be adjusted to include the following field:
Single Craft Hangar: (Does this ship have a hanger for a single fighter craft to be docked? Please choose either Yes or No. This field does not need to be taken into account when balancing but should be included in the strengths and weaknesses.)
This field does not require balancing when looking at your ratings but should be included in the weaknesses and strengths of your submission.
Carrier Exchange
Another long unofficial rule for the factory which I wished to quantify, from now on we will allow the substitution of starfighter squadrons for larger craft as part of a submission.
You must reduct your hangar capacity by 1 squadron per 100m of the larger vessel which is being included (for a ship of 400m this requires the removal of 4 quadrants, a ship of 430m requires the removal of 5 squadrons). The total hangar capacity of a ship must remain the same, the smaller carried craft must not be used to increase a ship’s carrying capacity. A Star Destroyer may carry up to corvette sized ships, a Battle-cruiser may carry up to frigate sized ships and a Dreadnought or SSD may carry up to cruiser sized ships.
Variable Hangars
If you so choose, you may have variable hangars on board your ships, allowing for a variable number of small craft to be deployed according to your needs. However, the total number of small craft (fighters, bombers and support craft) must not exceed the squadron limitations set down in the template and must carry the minimum number of support craft (which is the base number of squadrons for any size rating).
Affiliation
Open Market and Closed Market have been removed from the affiliation field and will be included in all templates in their own field, Market Status. As per this guide, the affiliation field is only meant to be used for permissions.
Hyperdrive
The two fields for the hyperdrive will be condensed into one field as per the below:
- Hyperdrive: (Does this ship have a hyperdrive? If this ship has a hyperdrive how fast is it? The lower the number, the faster the ship is, you may choose decimals. Any speed below 1.0 requires the hyperdrive to be added to the ship’s strengths and accordingly balanced with weaknesses. Links: Hyperdrive, Hyperdrive Comparisons)
Armament listing
The Armament field for the starship templates will be adjusted to the following to specify what counts as basic weaponry.
- Armament: (You may provide your armament in list format and must provide your vessel an Armament Rating. (Choose from: None, Very Low, Low, Average, High, Very High, Extreme. Armament Ratings are scaled in relation to the class of ship, meaning a Starfighter will not equate to a Destroyer. Armament Ratings provide only basic weaponry (ex. turbolasers, ion cannons, concussion missiles. laser cannons, etc) unless the ship also has a description of weapons. Stopping Power
Stopping power will be renamed to Damage Output
