Typically integrated into a glove, gauntlet, or cybernetic hand, the weapon operates when the emitter first generates an energy disc that hovers just over the palm of their hand (or an equivalent appendage). This is typically done by pressing a trigger, giving a mental command, or executing the necessary input through a different type of control system. When the user throws the disc, the containment field collapses, at which point the momentum and force from the throw is imparted on the energized disc, thereby launching it towards a given target. In essence, the plasma chakram projector is to the chakram as the energy bow is to the primitive longbow.
Upon impact, the disc explodes with a kinetic force of roughly 30 kilojoules, equivalent to the force of a high-grade anti-materiel caliber round.
