- Fire Concentration - Correcting the disadvantages of twinned weaponry pertaining to concentration of fire at certain ranges, the Kali utilizes a computer brain governed fire-concentration system that executes minute on-the-fly adjustments to the angle of the motorcycle’s fixed-forward weaponry, based on constant feedback from pilot input and targeting data. In effect, this system dynamically optimizes pattern harmonisation at all viable ranges, affording the weapons greater accuracy and damage potential.
- Electronic Warfare - Featuring a comprehensive suite of electronic warfare systems, the Kali can utilize these systems to dazzling effect in virtually any given battlespace, confusing missile tracking systems, jamming enemy sensors, disrupting targeting systems, and more. In effect, judicious application of these systems can make the Kali an extreme, yet hyper-lethal annoyance to enemy units.
- Sleeper - As an experimental machine, the Kali has a full suite of stealth systems, allowing it to maintain a small, if not entirely invisible sensor profile during most operating conditions, with the exception of weapon discharges and active electronic warfare systems.
- She is Speed - The Kali is an extremely fast machine, its speed rivaling that of many speeder bikes, especially on a smooth road. While the Kali is slower off-road, it is nevertheless capable of traversing rough terrain while maintaining good handling and speed for a vehicle of its class.
- Unlimited Downforce - Not only fast, but also agile, the Kali is capable of maintaining much of its speed through tight turns and making quick changes in direction. In addition, like the Vayu, the Kali is equipped with repulsorlift jets which allow it to hover at very low speed and “jump” in order to clear obstacles in its path.
- Traceable Tracks - While extremely stealthy, the fact that the Kali is a wheeled vehicle means that when used off-road, it will leave tread marks in its wake and potentially during sudden, aggressive turns on a road. These can feasibly be used to triangulate the Kali’s in spite of its extensive stealth suite.
- EMP/Ion Disruption - As a machine that depends on a suite of complicated electronics to ensure optimal performance, EMP and/or Ion-based attacks can hamper the combat capability of the Kali, the severity of which depends on the power quotient and proximity of the discharge to the motorcycle.
- Mechu-deru - An unspoken weakness of virtually all modern technology, the Kali is vulnerable to the esoteric sorceries of Mechu-deru and other technology-corrupting powers. As such, a skilled practitioner of such arts could quickly disable the machine, provided that they have a direct line of sight to the craft.
- Cargo Capacity - A very small cargo capacity renders the Kali as a rather one-dimensional machine. With its already-cramped pilot pod, the pilot is almost always unable to stow things on their person. Space is only afforded for a survival kit, primarily to support the pilot in the event that they are stranded.
Perhaps one of First United Astral Engineering’s most idiosyncratic designs, the FAE/eV-01 “Kali” Fast Attack Bike was conceived in response to a need for fast ground vehicles for operations in Oblivion, given the mysterious factors preventing the effective use of repulsorlift vehicles in the Netherworld. Designed as a groundbike, the seemingly outdated counterpart of conventional swoops and speeder bikes, the Kali was initially conceptualized as a droid vehicle, to be piloted by a governing droid brain. However, not wanting to sacrifice the creativity and intuition of an organic pilot, the designers made allocations to include a “pod” within the main body of the Kali. Unfortunately, given the extremely last-minute nature of this decision, the pod is extremely cramped, forcing the pilot to adopt a prone, semi-fetal position inside. However, the pod is equipped with an automated massage system in order to prevent cramping and discomfort in the pilot’s body. In addition, lacking any room for manual interface, the pilot must control the machine via a neural connection.
Nevertheless, development of the Kali went ahead as hoped by the designers. Extensive testing saw the design adopt a two-wheel drivetrain, once an unconventional choice for a motorcycle, though now made possible by various technological advances. The inclusion of a two-wheel drivetrain, advanced electronics, nano-adaptive tires with active molecular electric cling, and yet more, nullified many of the characteristic flaws of conventional motorcycles. As such, the Kali is capable of handling well both on and off-road, with maneuverability, stability, and speed far superior to that of ancient machines.
From there, the Kali was equipped with a relatively average armament for a vehicle of its size, focused in twinned rotary cannons and projectile launchers for additional utility. These weapons allow the Kali the capability to independently neutralize heavy powersuit-clad infantry and light vehicles, while being capable of punching above its weight when fielded in groups.
Unfortunately, the Kali does have a number of flaws, both trivial and significant. Its tires, while semi-resistant to punctures and kinetic small arms, nevertheless represent an exploitable point, capable of slowing the vehicle down if compromised. In addition, with its complicated electronics, Ion and EMP discharges may be effective against it, to varying degrees. The pod within the main body is also extremely small, preventing individuals taller than five feet from being able to pilot the vehicle.
Given these flaws, the Kali is somewhat unlikely to make it to full production. Nevertheless, the designers hope that at the very least, the vehicle’s performance in the field will allow them to make a strong case for its continued development.
