SPECIAL FEATURES
STRENGTHS
  • Double the Fun - When fired at the maximum rate, the Solar Flare can empty its double magazine in less than three seconds. In effect, the rifle can unleash a potentially devastating amount of firepower in a short span of time, making the Solar Flare a truly terrifying weapon when placed in the hands of a skilled, disciplined shooter. In addition, taking advantage of its double barrel design, the rifle can be set to fire one shot per trigger pull from a single barrel or two shots per trigger pull from both barrels simultaneously.
  • Damage Potential - The Solar Flare chambers an overpowered round for a weapon of its class. As such, it hits extremely hard in most circumstances, with enough energy to put down many types of targets, typically up to light vehicles and even rancor-sized beasts.
  • Stealth - The Skuggalegt polymer coating makes the Solar Flare extremely discreet, making it difficult, if not impossible to pick up on sensors or scanners.
  • Modularity - The Solar Flare is highly modular, capable of fitting underbarrel gadgets and weaponry, in addition to a myriad of other customizations.
WEAKNESSES
  • Ammunition Weight - Pound for pound, energy weapons are generally more efficient than slugthrowers. Unfortunately, the Solar Flare is no exception to this. Magazines are larger and heavier than power cells, limiting how many can be carried at a time.
  • Mechu-deru - Like any piece of technology, the Solar Flare is susceptible to Mechu-deru and other technology-twisting powers. A talented practitioner of such esoteric sorceries could induce a jam or some other mechanical failure that might compromise the weapon entirely or demand precious time to fix, leaving the shooter vulnerable.
  • Surged - A bevy of electronic subsystems are incorporated into the Solar Flare, including a few to aid in controlling the weapons recoil. EMP / Ion-base discharges can knock out these subsystems, thereby making the rifle marginally more difficult to control, in addition to disabling the electronic targeting aids.
  • Running Empty - A fast rate of fire can be a double-edged sword, especially for an undisciplined shooter. While the Solar Flare can put out massive amounts of firepower in only a couple of seconds, it can also mean an empty magazine that much faster, especially since the Solar Flare does not have a large capacity to begin with.
DESCRIPTION
A weapon gifted to Esmeralda Io for her actions on the Avatar of War during the Battle of Tython, FAE/eW-06 “Solar Flare” Double Barrel Rifle is both a custom and experimental piece. The Solar Flare has a twin barrel design, giving it a blistering rate of fire, with adjustable settings that allow Esmeralda to choose between firing one shot per trigger pull from a single barrel or two shots per trigger pull from both barrels simultaneously. Both settings have a mechanical rate of fire limited to 1100 RPM. Owing to its experimental nature, the rifles fires an oversized round for its size, giving it extreme damage potential and stopping power. To compensate for the recoil generated by the weapon’s massive round, an anti-recoil inertial compensation system was included in the design. However, this device does not generate the power to eliminate recoil entirely, only enough to make the recoil comparable to that of a typical assault rifle of lower caliber. Unfortunately, the Solar Flare does have weaknesses, including those inherent to its nature as a slugthrower weapon, a vulnerability to Ion / EMP discharges, and a susceptibility to technology-twisting powers that some Force-users are capable of.

Nevertheless, the Solar Flare is considered to be a prize weapon, given to Esmeralda not only as a reward, but as a symbol of victory over one of House Io’s sworn enemies.
